Dessert Holdings is looking for an R&D/Culinary Chef Manager in Delta, British Columbia to join the Product Development & Innovation team to lead development and optimization of new and existing projects. From idea to prototype concept to supporting plant floor commercialization, this individual will be responsible for delivering products on time that meet taste and functionality, quality, and cost expectations. This individual will also manage a team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education and a designation or certification from an accredited culinary school or university. Degree in Food Science is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience leading new bakery products through concept, prototyping, and trialing within an automated, high-speed bakery environment. Frozen bakery experience is a plus.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience
- Recipe/formulation and raw material knowledge and experience.
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and collaboration skills, as well as a problem-solving and entrepreneurial mentality
- Ability to travel up to 30%
- Ability to work flexible hours as required to support bench and floor work
Responsibilities:
- Manage the team of culinary product developers including product evaluations, managing timelines, connecting with operations, and other duties during development.
- Research, formulate and develop new products within time, cost, and processing requirements.
- Prepare and present samples for customer presentation and sign off.
- Conduct reviews on project assignments with the Director.
- Responsible for managing own projects and providing guidance to other Product Designers as required.
- Contributes to driving the internal innovation process from a culinary perspective, identifying trends and new product development opportunities to support customer needs.
- Administrative oversight on project trackers, costing process, and test kitchen procedures.
- Overall oversight for the test kitchen ensuring inventory is maintained and general maintenance is up to date.
- Support any on-floor testing and trialing as the voice of the customer.
