Description:
Job Overview: Screening and diagnosis of gynecologic (GYN), non-gynecologic (Non-GYN) and fine needle aspirate cytology specimen slides; performing on-site adequacy assessment of FNA specimens using mobile cart throughout the hospital, in CAB, at CINJ and at University Radiology Group Outpatient office on Plum St., as other sites as needed; resulting and recording diagnoses of screening in Copath computer system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor degree from an approved college or university and fulfillment of the requirements for certification as a cytotechnologist set forth by ASCP and ASC
- ThinPrep certification required.
- Three (3) years full-time and continuous experience as a cytotechnologist following certification in a laboratory supervised by a pathologist or other physician certified as a specialist in diagnostic cytopathology.

Responsibilities:
- Screens GYN, Non-GYN and FNA cytology specimens,
- Prepares a final diagnosis on negative/normal gynecologic specimens
- Enters all preliminary GYN and Non- GYN results in the system to be finalized by a Pathologist,
- Attends Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures in CT, Ultrasound and Endoscopy to determine specimen adequacy,
- Ensures all attended procedure specimens are labeled and ordered correctly,
- Maintains all supplies and stain control log for the mobile FNA cart which is stationed in CT, US and endoscopy suite,
- Perform/document routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation,
- Prepares cytology and thin prep specimens on a STAT basis when required,
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information,
- Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections,
- Performs other duties as required by department
