Job Description

Southampton City Council have an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst to join the Data, Intelligence and Insight Team within Southampton City Council focusing on education, skills and young people. The successful candidates will play a key role in delivering comprehensive and integrated intelligence and data analysis, to enable the Council to make decisions and manage its services based on a strong evidence base. The team is responsible for the development, production and presentation of highly complex advanced analysis focused on improving outcomes for young people across the city.
The role will be responsible for supporting approximately 90 educational institutions (schools, colleges and training providers) within the Local Authority Area with a broad range of statutory data collections, developing detailed analysis including the creation and quality assurance of complex reports, dashboards and mapping. There will be a particular focus on tracking young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), and performance reporting for the Youth Justice Service. Regular liaison with key stakeholders in Education and The Young People’s Service will be critical to the success of this role.
The successful candidate will have degree or professional qualification in a relevant area and significant experience of working in an analytical role with a track record of with excellent numerical, research and range of analytical skills. As well as knowledge of data management, information governance and data visualisation, you will have knowledge of statistical techniques and procedures, including specialist knowledge of analytical tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, QGIS, SQL-based reporting and other statistical software packages required for data input, analysis and presentation. An understanding of NEET and Youth Offending statutory responsibilities and Liquid Logic CCIS would be an advantage (but not essential).
