Description:
The Data Analyst is accountable for data analysis of complex system-wide provider information/data. Manages and oversees data import/export/downstream processes, builds reports to verify data quality/timelines, understands the impact of the data on other internal USC applications. Conducts audits and analysis in accordance with regulatory requirements while using experience with data extracts, manipulation and/or data management. Designs, coordinates and produces reporting required for internal and external stakeholders and regulatory agencies. Provides recommendations on process or system improvements. Communicates with key stakeholders with regards to report requests and general inquiries.
This principal position provides the analytical/technical skills needed for leading the implementation and coordination of supply chain management processes within the Materials Management Information System (MMIS) and its affiliates. The position is responsible for ongoing collection of supply chain information that is obtained from a variety of sources including but not limited to the MMIS system and supporting benchmarking systems. In addition, the position is responsible for the system wide identification, negotiation, and monitoring of sourcing, procurement, distribution, logistics and supply chain informatics. As a systems liaison, this position is expected to partner with the Sourcing Team in utilizing data and operations knowledge in conjunction with contract and product cost benefit analyses as well as Capital expenditures ROI analyses. It requires the ability to analyze health care supply chain data from conceptualization through presentation of the data. The position also involves day to day maintenance of the MMIS data sets, month-end close and both cycle and ad hoc reporting. It requires proficiency with analytical tools (e.g. Excel), knowledge of data analysis methodology, use of presentation software, strong communication skills and a strong commitment to and affinity for delivering the highest level of customer service.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Req Bachelor’s degree Information Management, Healthcare Information, Computing, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields
- Req High school or equivalent
- 1-2 additional years of relevant data analytics or supply chain experience may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree
- Req 2 years Technical expertise regarding data models and database design development.
- Req Experience in data mining techniques and procedures and knowing when to use appropriately.
- Req Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, XML and SQL (Powerinsight, Discern Explorer preferred)
- Req Competent using SAS, SPSS, or other statistical packages as needed for analyzing large datasets
- Req Programming skills preferred. Adept at queries and report writing.
- Req Knowledge of statistics and able to communicate effectively with statisticians
- Req Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner
- Req Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills with strong customer service emphasis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pref Knowledge of ROI analyses
- Pref Experience with electronic health record applications (e.g. Cerner) preferred

Responsibilities:
- Daily Operations -Produces trend reports and identifies variances to target metrics. -Analyze and problem solve issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of patient data (for example, review for accuracy in record merge, unmerge processes). -Analyze reports of data duplicates or other errors (i.e. validate and correct) to provide ongoing appropriate inter-departmental communication and monthly or daily data reports. -Identifies correlation in data variables and offers alternative approaches. -Monitor for timely and accurate completion of select data elements. -Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets. -Monitor data dictionary statistics
- Data Capture - In collaboration with others within the Sourcing & Materials Management team, develop and maintain databases and data analytics necessary for projects implementation and monitoring. - Acquire and abstract primary or secondary data from existing internal or external data sources - Perform data entry, either manually or using scanning technology, when needed or required.
- Data Reporting - In collaboration with others within the Sourcing & Materials Management teams, interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings. - Develop graphs, reports, and presentations of project results to customer specifications and timelines. - Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports. - Generate routine and ad hoc reports.
- Communication - Communicates in an effective manner with the Managers regarding ongoing projects, work activities and other concerns. - Promotes effective communication and working relationships within Materials Management team and other departments - Projects University and hospital mission and values to all customer groups.
- Other - Performs other duties as necessary for the smooth operation of the department and the hospital.
