    The team
    ASIC’s Markets Group ensure trust and confidence in Australia’s financial markets by working with infrastructure providers, market participants and investment banks to supervise market conduct and trading on both listed and OTC markets.
    As part of Markets Group, the Market Intelligence Team conducts research and thematic reviews into market integrity issues and develops and maintains technology systems and methods used by ASIC for market surveillance.
    We produce quantitative market integrity analysis, lead innovative projects to enhance detection of market misconduct, input into evidence-based policy making and collaborate with other teams on data solutions.
    The role

As a Data Analyst (Market Intelligence), you will be accountable for:

  • Utilising data to deliver desired priorities; including effective collection, management and governance, modelling and analysis, and communication of insights and findings through reports, briefings, presentations, visualisations, dashboards and other novel applications.
  • Responding to specific requests to collect and prepare data and information in a timely and accurate manner for evidence, guidance and publication to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Providing support for analytics projects involving processes to collect, clean, explore and present data.
  • Conducting or assisting in quantitative market analysis, in-house thematic reviews and the development of methods and tools to monitor market integrity.
  • Manipulating, combining and analysing large datasets from multiple sources to enhance regulatory understanding of financial markets, products and participant behaviour.
  • Resolving complex problems by applying your strategic, conceptual, analytical, investigative skills to reach robust and practical solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and team members in order to draw on their domain knowledge and expertise for advice and guidance.

About you

  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Sound logical reasoning and analytical problem-solving skills to draw out likely influences and well supported conclusions from both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to quickly absorb, adapt and utilise new information, concepts, methods and situations; showing initiative to remain abreast of new trends and developments.
  • Proficiency and experience applying sound professional judgement and scepticism to the identification and assessment of risks, problems, or issues.
  • Verbal, written and presentation competency with the ability to convey complex information and insights in a digestible form to a wide audience.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned tasks and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Ability to develop strategic relationships across a variety of stakeholder groups and projects.
  • Business acumen from exposure or a working knowledge of analytical roles in a corporate, consulting, government or academic environment.
  • Familiarity with the Australian financial markets and environment from a regulatory, operational, risk, or consumer harm viewpoint highly desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience in data engineering, business intelligence, statistical analysis or machine learning highly desirable.
  • Fluency in Python, R, SQL, Q or any other programming language highly desirable
