Our public sector client is seeking a Data Analyst for an 8 month contract. See details below.
Client: Public Sector
Duration: 8 months
Location: Remote within Alberta (Preference will be given to candidate based in Edmonton)
Pay rate: Negotiable
The Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE) team is responsible for the development and implementation of methodologies, practices and processes to transform enterprise data into critical corporate insights to improve strategic, tactical and operational decision-making. They are also key contributors to developing and implementing the enterprise data management program to ensure that the corporation’s data and information assets and lifecycle are accurate, effectively governed, protected and utilized in compliance with requisite legislations, policies and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Expected Skills and Abilities:

  • Very strong proficiency in SQL.
  • Strong proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, R).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong proficiency with data architecture and best practices.
  • Experience with data cleaning and preparation.
  • Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI, Incorta) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop/Spark).
  • Understanding of analytical models and how to structure data for model usage.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills, with an ability to adapt to and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to be adaptive and learn new tools, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work within a team environment or independently as needed.
  • Ability to manage your time efficiently and work with little supervision.
  • Ability to manage stress in an environment with high expectations, tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Understanding best practices, methods, and standards for business intelligence, analytics, and visualizations.
  • Agile methodologies.
  • Team Foundation Server (TFS) - Code Management

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • SQL Server Experience (SSIS Integration Services).
  • Experience in Python or R.
  • Experience analyzing and transforming survey data.
  • Experience doing feature engineering.
  • Statistical knowledge.
  • Pension administration knowledge.

Responsibilities:

The scope of the work will include (but is not limited to):
1)Understand the business requirements to devise a technical solution that aligns with the business’s objectives.
2)Understand the nuances of the data and its relationships to build reputable results.
3)Leverage the technology to build full-function, easy-to-use dashboards and solutions.
4)Collect, transform and store data required for business intelligence and analytics (including internal and external data sources).
5)Build, test, and maintain database pipeline architectures.
6)Streamline data collection methods to create automated and easy-to-use routines.
7)Perform cleansing, processing, and validating the data to be analyzed to ensure its quality.
8)Explore and visualize data using Python and business intelligence tools.
9)Document all data pipelines and transformations created.
10)Follow standards for data analysis to promote maintainability and testability. Recommend improvements to practices where appropriate.
