Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Informatics and Epidemiology, the Data Analyst is responsible for acquiring and preparing data from primary and secondary data sources and maintaining databases and data analysis systems. This includes the development, implementation, and management of databases, data collection systems, data analytics, various data visualization activities, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality. The Data Analyst will import, transform, validate or model, manage, analyze, interpret and explain data from multiple internal and external sources. This position will prepare and present comprehensive and actionable recommendations to executive and divisional leaders using statistical and business techniques to distill large data sets into audience appropriate reports that help drive clinical process improvement and inform business decisions for Seattle Indian health Board (SIHB).
Organizational Structure/Reporting Relationships: This position reports directly to the Director of Informatics and Epidemiology and has no direct reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals, weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional travel to SIHB sites, vendors and other locations as needed or otherwise indicated by the role.
    Work Environment: Office hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday with occasional extra hours for events or to meet deadlines

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Work with Executive and Division leadership to prioritize data, and data analysis needs
  • Collaborate with Executive and Division leadership to identify business needs and clarify management objectives with respect to input into report designs, reporting processes, reporting mechanisms, data structure, and data analysis
  • Work with leadership in gathering and clarifying needs, and develop detailed requirements for design, content and functionality of reports, methods and analysis for identified indicators
  • Define and identify new process improvement activities to streamline data acquisition, data cleaning and preparation
  • Ability to write and create algorithms and coding systems for all analysis performed on data for data preparation, data abstraction, data analysis, and measuring calculations
  • Assist with maintaining data dictionaries for databases used by Seattle Indian Health Board
  • Maintains confidentiality with all databases used by Seattle Indian Health Board
  • Assist with data request and technical assistance for all data aspects, including interpretation of data
  • Develop and generate analyses tools, interface mechanisms for data structure and analyses, standardization, automation, as well as custom statistical and surveillance reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that summarize and support Health and Human Services, Billing, Fiscal, and Operations Departments
  • Analyze data characteristics, attributes, trends, or patterns. Review data reports for quality and consistency. Be able to explain variations in data. Prepare necessary data cleanup as it relates to improving the quality of data for research and operation purposes, and share findings with data owners to improve ongoing data quality
  • Look for effective solutions to address data quality
  • Work with Electronic Health Record (EHR) administrators to understand data elements and improve functionality of data collection within the (EHR)
  • Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
