THE OPPORTUNITY:

Are you a skilled Data Architect with a passion for health and medical research? The Centre for Population Genomics is seeking an expert to join our Population Analysis team, working closely with our OurDNA and Software teams. This is your opportunity to shape the future of data architecture in genomic research!
The Data Architect will report to Jennifer Piscionere (Population Analysis Co- Lead). They will work closely with the Analysis, Software, and OurDNA teams to define the data architecture of the OurDNA participant recruitment and data analysis workflows. The Data Architect will work closely with external stakeholders who capture and store our participant data, such as pathology labs and our participant portal provider WeGuide.
Our DNA Program is a first of its kind cohort that seeks to recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds in cutting edge genomic research through collaboration with community groups pathology lab and biobanks!

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

5 years minimum experience in data architecture, solution design, technical Business Analyst or similar role
Ability to collect and translate design and business logic requirements into technical solutions across backend, APIs, UIs, workflows and data integrations
Ability to design solutions that are reliable and scalable and can adopt changes and new requirements without complete re-architecting
Experience in data modelling using modelling standards such as UML 2.0, and ER Diagrams.

Who we are
The Centre for Population Genomics is a collaborative initiative of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Garvan) in Sydney and MCRI in Melbourne. The Centre is directed by Daniel MacArthur who previously led a team at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in Boston that was responsible for the development and open release of the Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD), a collection of genetic data from over 140,000 individuals that has become one of the most widely-used reference databases in human genetics.
The Centre is focussing on developing cutting-edge tools and resources to facilitate the conversion of genomic data into improved diagnosis and treatment. Ultimately, the Centre will generate and manage the largest sets of genomic and clinical data ever assembled in Australia and apply these to solve various scientific and medical problems

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Solution Design & Architectural Guidance: Provide expert solution design and architectural guidance across data platforms.
Data Management: Manage data architecture and modelling for the OurDNA project, covering current needs and future requirements.
Integration Solutions: Collaborate with the Software team to integrate diverse data sources, including LIMS, participant portals, CPG infrastructure, and pathology labs.
Requirement Analysis: Work closely with the Population Analysis and OurDNA teams to determine and meet current and future scientific and operational requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with external vendors to ensure consistent and actionable architectural decisions.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Overarching responsibility for the data architecture of the OurDNA program, specifically around participant recruitment and genomic data analysis workflows.
Lead the design of complex solutions, in collaboration with the OurDNA and Software teams, for end-to-end data workflows from pathology labs and CRMs to metadata management and business intelligence tools.
Ensuring that data from under-represented and marginalised groups is treated with the utmost respect and is securely handled at all stages.
Managing data flow and coordination across the project through effective vendor management and collaboration
