Description:

Plains Midstream Canada (PMC) is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). PMC also operates strategically-located facilities for crude oil and NGL storage, separates NGL from natural gas and fractionates NGL into pure liquid petroleum gas (LPG) products, including propane and butane.

Plains is looking to add a Data Architect/Data Modeler to lead our enterprise data modeling initiatives and make high-level design decisions. You will be responsible for overseeing the creation and maintenance of conceptual, logical, and physical data models, as well as ensuring alignment with data quality, integrity, and governance standards .
You will also collaborate with your peers on the data architecture team, as well as business analysts, business data SMEs, data engineers, and data scientists to understand the data needs and deliver optimal solutions. As a subject matter expert in data modeling, you will also mentor and coach other data professionals and influence the data culture of the organization.
The Data Architect guides the definition of processes and technical solutions intended to enable the identification, definition and analysis of information assets and guide their use to aid strategies and business outcomes. Additionally, they are responsible for guiding the discovery of data and analytics requirements for information for all uses.
The Data Architect reports to the Manager, Data and Information Architecture, and receives direction from the Director of Data and AI, as well as the Principal Architect for Data. #plains

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in IT, with at least 2 years in information system design.
  • 5 years’ experience of analytical or contextual data modeling is highly desirable.
  • In-depth experience of designing and implementing information solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with implementing data and analytics management programs is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MDM, business intelligence, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques, as well as data governance, quality, and security principles and practices.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a Midstream Oil and Gas context.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in an Upstream or Downstream Oil and Gas context, or within a Utilities context
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and design of enterprise data models that align with business objectives and data strategy.
  • Define and implement data standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Review and optimize data architecture and inform the design of data integration processes and APIs.
  • Provide data modeling guidance and support to data engineering and data science teams.
  • Conduct data quality assessments and recommend data quality improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate and document data models and data flows to stakeholders.
  • Aid efforts to improve business performance through enterprise information solutions and capabilities, such as data cataloguing, master data management (MDM), metadata management, analytics, content management, data integration, and related information management or information infrastructure components.
  • Contributes to the formulation of data and information strategies, methodologies and tactics that will be utilized to achieve the organization’s targeted business outcomes and the transition to a data-driven culture.
  • Assists in the execution and support of the Plains information strategy through consultation with business and IT stakeholders and the delivery of data and Data Architecture guidance and deliverables.
  • Provides data modeling and data design guidance to major projects.
  • Assists in the definition, development, maintenance and operation of the technology ecosystem that is implemented to discover, record, analyze, plan and transform the Plains information estate.
  • Creates and manages business information models in all their forms, including analytical or conceptual models, relational database designs, message models and others – both current state and future state.
  • Have strong knowledge of medallion architecture and its benefits for data modeling and data integration.
