This role is to support the British Gas Service and Solution (BGS&S) Financial Control team in delivering data analytics initially focussed on revenue reporting, script transition from SAS.
You will work with a variety of stakeholders across Finance, Data, IS and the rest of the business to support in gaining insight into BGS&S processes using a data-based approach.

EXPERIENCE

  • An inquisitive and logical mind and a passion for using data to solve problems.
  • Previous delivery or interest with working complex data systems and being able to gain finance insight from them.
  • Interest and willingness to learn about Big Data technologies important.
  • Previous experience in data manipulation using SQL or SAS.
  • Experience using Python or R will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of visualisation tools, ideally Power BI.
  • Ability to work on own initiative without the need for significant supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • You will have access to all key analytical tools: Python, R, SAS, or SQL for use in Centrica’s data lake in carrying out analysis and creating insightful information and control processes. You will also be using bigdata tools such as Hadoop and Spark daily.
  • Migrating SAS scripts to a different analytical language to obtain the same result from the same dataset.
  • Be able to support testing of system change pre and post go live of projects and system changes.
  • Be able to create advanced analysis based on system data to explain a problem, system behaviour, or financial performance.
  • Support delivery of finance process improvements that enhance the quality and increase the level of automation of finance processes.
  • Impact assess problems and provide advice as to whether we should use traditional systems change or other automation tools e.g. Power Apps to deliver change quickly.
  • Partner with virtual teams including external and third parties to deliver and represent finance on projects impacting finance.
  • Support in the coming migration of our finance systems by creating control processes driven by the data produced from the old and new systems to ensure revenue integrity is maintained and the business has the right insight.
  • Assess risk of operational processes on financial activity and identify control gaps which could lead to financial detriment.
  • Independently updating and reporting revenue performance and improving our regular reporting processes (creating new dashboards using Power BI).
  • Investigating and understanding the drivers behind revenue performance.
