About the Role
Role Overview
The Data Governance Analyst primary responsibility is managing and applying data governance control frameworks across AGL and facilitating data governance education and awareness across all lines of business at AGL. This role is responsible for supporting data governance initiatives, analyzing business processes, and ensuring data quality, compliance, and effective data management across the organization.
They will drive the data governance framework through setting and maintaining standards, providing assurance on the effectiveness of IT controls that secure AGL’s data. This includes engagement and educating business and technology teams on data ownership and stewardship accountabilities ensuring implementation aligns to AGL’s long-term, strategic direction and priorities.
What you’ll be doing
- Participate in data governance projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project plans.
- Capable of autonomously leading and executing data governance initiatives from inception to completion.
- Collaborate with data stewards and business units to define and enforce data ownership, responsibilities, and accountability throughout the data lifecycle.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing data governance processes, methodologies, and frameworks to drive continuous improvement and meet evolving business needs.
- Investigate and resolve data-related issues, collaborating with IT support, data analysts, data governance team, and other relevant departments
- Ensure alignment of data governance activities with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough assessments to identify strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies, guidelines and technologies to ensure analysis, reporting, evaluation, and research activities comply with legislative and regulatory requirements and align with data governance best practices.
- Assist in Developing and deliver training programs and workshops to promote data governance awareness, understanding, and adoption across AGL.
About you
- Performing in a similar role for at least 3 years.
- Sound understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices.
- Experience with data governance tools such as Purview, Collibra, Informatica Axon, or similar platforms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data management practices, data quality best practices and industry standards.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks, such as DAMA-DMBOK.
- Exposure to cloud environments i.e. MS Azure and APIs (desirable).
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data mapping and data structures.
