POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Centre for Computational Medicine (CCM) at The Hospital for Sick Children is seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist / Bioinformatician. Located within the SickKids Research Institute, the CCM is a core facility providing the scientific community with expertise in data science, high-performance computing, and machine learning. The successful candidate will be able to apply their machine learning knowledge to unique health and biological datasets to make predictions about pediatric health outcomes over time.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in python is essential.
- Experience with statistical tests and models in real data (preferably health related).
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage project demands and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Apply state-of-the-art machine learning methods to medical imaging data and other data types
- Contribute to cutting-edge findings in biology and health
- Develop data processing and reporting pipelines to manage and maintain data quality and provenance
- Work in a casual work environment where learning and development are keys to success
- Interact with other data scientists, bioinformaticians and scientists
