JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Do you have a head for numbers? Like turning real world problems into mathematical representations and checking to see if you did it right? If you like that, consider this opportunity with Maxar. Our customers have some of the most interesting needs and hardest challenges to resolve. Our solutions require integrated models based on large and varied datasets, feeding analytic applications so that we can extract patterns and behaviors obscured within the data to augment the capabilities of human operators. We need an experienced data scientist to work on all stages of the data science pipeline, to include applying existing machine learning software across large hyperparameter trade spaces, developing new machine learning algorithms and evaluating the best the commercial AI/ML industry has to offer to our problem set.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain TS/SCI clearance and CI Polygraph
  • M.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience as a professional data scientist or research scientist
  • 5+ years of experience with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience solving image science and/or geospatial problems for commercial or government clients. Detailed understanding of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms and capabilities would suffice.
  • 5+ years of experience with neural network, deep learning algorithms, natural language processing and/or machine learning
  • 5+ years of experience working on data science or image science problems that require subject matter expertise in remote sensing, government ISR collection platforms and image datasets
  • Familiarity with deep learning tech such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or other scientific languages such as MATLAB
  • Experience with version control technologies such as Git, GitLab, etc.
  • Willing to travel to Herndon, VA for on-site SCIF work
  • Capability to work effectively in a geographically distributed development team
  • Occasional local travel (DC Capital Region) to government sites for customer meetings and demonstrations

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience as a professional data scientist
  • 6+ years of experience with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)
  • Familiarity with EO data systems and structures
  • 2+ years of experience briefing government clients in the Defense and Intelligence communities
  • Experience with solving image science and/or geospatial problems for commercial or government clients
  • Familiarity with Python’s geospatial libraries, such as gdal, geopandas, shapely, etc.
  • Experience with Linux command line tools
  • Awareness of deep learning algorithms for image science, such as YOLO, SSD, DetectNet, etc.
