We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. As a relational database administrator, you will be responsible for the administration, performance, and security of CouchDB and SQL Server databases inside the Client’s Remote Data Center (RDC). This includes patching, compliance with DoD security frameworks (HBSS, ACAS, eMASS, STIG’s), and maintaining required certifications. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in database administration within a DoD environment and has a deep understanding of security and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration: Administer and maintain database systems, ensuring their optimal performance, data integrity, and availability. This includes database installation, configuration, and upgrading, as well as managing database objects, schemas, and users.

  • DoD Security Compliance: Ensure compliance with DoD security frameworks, including Host-Based Security System (HBSS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), and Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS). Implement security controls, review audit logs, and perform necessary remediation to meet DoD requirements.
  • Database Security: Implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive DoD data within databases. Manage user access control, authentication, and authorization in compliance with DoD security guidelines and policies.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure compliance with DoD security policies, guidelines, and directives, including Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) requirements.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize the performance of databases by analyzing query execution plans, identifying, and resolving performance bottlenecks, and implementing performance tuning techniques. Continuously evaluate and improve database systems to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Backup and Recovery: Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure the availability and reliability of data. Regularly perform database backups, schedule recovery tests, and maintain backup and recovery documentation.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including data corruption, connectivity problems, and performance degradation. Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as database optimization, index management, and database statistics updates.
  • Database Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and maintain monitoring systems to proactively identify database issues, track system utilization, and generate performance reports. Provide timely and accurate reports to stakeholders on database-related metrics and compliance status.
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and security teams, to support their database requirements and resolve database-related issues. Provide guidance and support to colleagues on database design, best practices, and SQL query optimization.
  • Documentation: Document database configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and smooth handovers. Develop and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, ER diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven work experience as a Database Administrator in a DoD environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database management systems (DBMS) and concepts.
