The Pima County Public Defender’s Office is seeking a qualified and dedicated Defense Investigator to join its team of professionals representing adult and juvenile clients. The Defense Investigator is a skilled professional tasked with uncovering the truth and gathering evidence to support the defense of the client. Duties of the Defense Investigator position include interviewing witnesses, conducting background checks on case-involved parties, and checking the facts in police reports, all in the defense of the client. Defense Investigators play a crucial role in helping defense attorneys build a strong case and are vital to ensuring a fair and just legal system.

- Conducts complex investigations of highly specialized or diversified cases such as narcotic, embezzlement, fraud, murder, corruption in government, white collar and/or organized crimes;
- Plans and conducts extensive pre- and post-arrest interviews and interrogations often involving delicate and sensitive issues;
- Maintains a close liaison with law enforcement agencies to promote cooperation and ensure communication on matters of mutual interest;
- Testifies in a variety of judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings;
- Gathers, analyzes, and secures supporting evidence and maintains a chain of custody;
- Performs surveillance and undercover work;
- Prepares reports to assist in the prosecution of cases or in the defense of clients;
- Performs specialized field investigations;
- Assists attorneys in preparation of case(s) for trial;
- May coordinate the activities of investigators or law enforcement personnel and use of technical investigative equipment;
- May lead other investigators to perform complex and specialized investigations.
