POST SUMMARY

The School of Medicine seeks to appoint two Demonstrators in Anatomy on a parttime basis (0.5 FTE).
The successful candidates will provide teaching to students of anatomy at TCD mainly via cadaveric demonstration and small group teaching. In addition, the post holders will assist the discipline in curricular development activities including blended learning and exam preparation. Research may also be conducted in one of the areas of expertise of the discipline including human anatomy, immunology, cancer, sports and exercise medicine, medical education, and neuroscience.
The appointees will have a primary degree in an Anatomy related health science subject, including but not limited to Anatomy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Radiation Therapy, Neuroscience, Medicine, and Dental Science.
Previous experience in cadaveric anatomy teaching and learning is essential. Previous experience in research and undergraduate anatomy teaching is highly desirable. The post holder must have an excellent command of the English language and good interpersonal, communication, IT and presentation skills.
The post offers an opportunity to expand one’s research portfolio and expertise in anatomy to prepare for a career in medicine, industry, or academia.
The Discipline of Anatomy teaches undergraduate students of Medicine, Dentistry, Human Health and Disease, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Speech and Language Studies, Neuroscience and Radiation Therapy. The discipline is staff by 5 assistant professors, 2 chief technical officers and 2 chief technical officer specialists, a teaching fellow, postgraduate researchers, a senior executive officer, and a lecturer registrar, and is supported by part-time academic postings. Anatomy curricula are taught primarily through cadaveric dissection over the course of two academic years and are tailored to the professional significance of the disciplines being taught. Musculoskeletal and core anatomy are taught in year 1, while head/neck and neuroanatomy are taught in year 2. Blended learning and radiology are significant components of the students learning experience. The preferred candidates will have a teaching profile appropriate to career stage. The preferred candidates will report to the Head of Discipline or their designee.
