YOUR SKILLS PROFILE
- 8+ post admission experience obtained in a commercial legal environment. In-house experience is preferred but not essential;
- Ideally, experience in drafting and negotiating contracts in the construction, infrastructure, mining or equivalent services;
- Strong experience across general commercial legal matters including drafting, negotiating, and advising on a range of commercial contracts
- A desire to lead and develop the legal team and grow the organisation
- Well developed commercial acumen and the ability to work closely with the business; and
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience managing internal and external stakeholder negotiations

Responsibilities:
As Deputy General Counsel, you will be running the day to day operations of the legal team including supervising and mentoring two Legal Counsels. Servicing the company on a national level, you will have a comfortable level of autonomy whilst reporting through to the Executive General Manager of Legal and Corporate who is readily available to assist on more strategic and complex matters.
The legal team is well liked and highly respected by the broader organsation due to the commercially focussed support they provide their internal stakeholders. Your new role will see you advising and participating in negotiations around customer and supplier contracts, tenders and bids; providing education on regulatory changes, compliance obligations and risk mitigation strategies; overseeing the APAC insurance program as well as managing external counsel on more complex disputes or high stakes matters.
There is also the opportunity to be involved with the global legal team based in London and have exposure to the European operations of the company.
