ABOUT THE ROLE

At Tabcorp, our Legal – Business Operations (media, wagering and gaming) team sits within the Legal and Risk Office (LRO) and provides invaluable legal advice and expertise across a wide range of commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.

As a Deputy General Counsel, you’ll report to the General Counsel for the Business Operations & Corporate team and play a key role in navigating these complex fields. While this is a broad commercial and advisory legal role, you’ll also enjoy ownership of media related matters including advising our Sky Racing business. Amongst your broad responsibilities, you will:

  • manage all Australian and international media related matters including drafting and negotiating media rights, content distribution, pooling agreements, and similar arrangements;
  • manage non-media related matters including drafting and negotiating agreements, and advising on regulatory, licensing, marketing, consumer, and general commercial law;
  • provide strong leadership to your direct report, other LRO colleagues (especially junior lawyers) and more broadly across the business;
  • act as a leader and mentor within the Legal team, fostering engagement, ensuring collaboration, and providing guidance to enhance Legal’s contribution to the broader business;
  • partner with senior Tabcorp leaders to proactively identify legal risks and develop effective strategies and solutions; and
  • champion awareness and continuous education about legal and commercial developments relevant to Tabcorp.

To be successful in this role you’ll be an accomplished senior lawyer with a proven background in managing media related legal matters and providing commercially focussed legal advice within, or to, highly regulated organisations. Additionally, you’ll possess:

  • strong contract drafting skills, broad commercial experience, and the ability to provide clear, effective, and commercially savvy legal advice;
  • ability to balance commercial outcomes with practical legal considerations, ensuring the provision of legally sound advice that safeguards the business’s interests;
  • strong leadership attributes with the ability to guide and develop direct reports and other team members;
  • ability to motivate others and strongly contribute to an engaging and productive team environment and culture; and
  • excellent stakeholder and communication skills which enable you to successfully engage, influence and negotiate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
