We are looking for an enthusiastic physicist with considerable experience to join the Diagnostic Radiology Physics team at The Royal Marsden Hospital in a permanent position.
The post holder will be leading the groups academic, research and teaching activity and should therefore hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist and holding an RPA 2000 Medical Physics Expert certificate is essential, and the post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology, procuring, accepting, commissioning and optimising x-ray and CT equipment, and contributing to routine quality control testing, patient dosimetry and radiation protection services.
The Department of Physics provides clinical services to the Trust and undertakes extensive basic and translational research. The Diagnostic Radiology Physics Group provide diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection services to The Royal Marsden and to other hospitals. The Royal Marsden has sites in Chelsea, Sutton and Marylebone. The group is a friendly team and consists of 7.2 WTE scientists, a senior healthcare science practitioner and a senior radiology review coordinator, and we are based at the Cheslea site. Deputise for the head of the diagnostic radiology physics group.
Manage the review process for radiology research studies and lead the provision of Medical Physics.

Lead the group’s academic, research and teaching activity.
Act as operational lead for one aspect of the diagnostic radiology physics group’s service, such as the X-ray equipment quality assurance programme, patient dose audit programme, or radiation
protection programme, as required for the efficient delivery of the service.
Serve as Medical Physics expert for diagnostic radiology according to the requirements of the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R). The post holder will
operate with considerable personal autonomy.
Participate at a senior level of professional expertise in the provision and development of the group’s diagnostic radiology physics service.

Provide the lead Medical Physics Expert advice for research studies involving ionising radiation.
Manage the provision of Medical Physics Expert advice for research ethics applications.
Develop and implement improvements to the service.
Develop a cohesive research strategy together with the clinical leads in diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology.
Coordinate research activity within the group and oversee research activity in collaboration with other scientific and clinical teams, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Investigate and establish new research collaborations with clinical and academic teams, including funding opportunities.
Supervise students (e.g. MSc or PhD) or to be responsible for such projects as may be required.
