Description:

Be responsible for maintaining a valid, up to date NMC registration and professional profile. Provide effective leadership within safeguarding practices for the maternity service. Provide individual support to all staff members within the maternity services department and assist in the prevention, identification, assessment and management of safeguarding children through a coordinated approach. Promote the upholding of the CQC Safeguarding standards.
Maintain confidentiality at all times relating to patients, staff and the Trust unless in the wider public interest as per Working Together 2023. To complete weekly MARAC (Multi-agency risk assessment conference) research. To collate and distribute HUB referrals and feedback for both Medway and Swale Safeguarding HUBs, and to Chair these meetings in the absence of the Named Midwife for Safeguarding. To review and action notifications received from maternity by the police service.
To attend safeguarding meetings such as Strategy and professionals meetings, Initial and Review Child Protection conferences and Child In Need and Core group meetings, in addition to pre-birth and pre discharge planning meetings. To attend represent maternity safeguarding in internal and external meetings in the absence of the named midwife for safeguarding. To support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding by collating data of safeguarding activity to support with audit and reporting. To participate and provide maternity safeguarding training and education.
To be visible in the unit and in community as a safeguarding specialist to offer support and guidance with safeguarding practices, this can be in person or virtually. To keep their own skills and knowledge up to date by attending regular safeguarding training. To cover the Named Midwife for Safeguarding in periods of leave, sickness/absence to have oversight of safeguarding practices within maternity. Assist and progress the implementation of risk assessment and safety planning for victims of domestic abuse.
Maintain responsibility for own professional development on a continual basis both academically, professionally and clinically. Access support and child protection supervision due to the highly emotional/distressing aspect of the role
