Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the position Deputy Safety Manager working as part of the Safety Team. We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, competent professional to help deliver a comprehensive health and safety service to the Trust. You will provide competent advice, (as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, 1999) on all aspects of health and safety at work and assist the Associate Director of Safety and Statutory Compliance in the management of safety within the Trust. You will work closely with other teams to ensure Safety risks are identified and that Care Groups are supported to note and manage any safety concerns.
- Please note*, there may be an option for those applicants not successful at interview for the Band 6 -Deputy Safety Manager to be offered a Band 5 Safety Officer post.
You will assist the Safety team in the general management of safety within the Trust and be expected to provide competent advice to the organisation. Line managing the Safety Officer(s) to ensure the organisation has a coordinated approach to safety. Due to a review of the safety team, the successful post holder will currently report to the Associate Director of Safety and Statutory Compliance. Therefore this post is offered as a 1 year Fixed term contract (1 year secondment if from within the NHS).
You will be able to identify hazards and perform subsequent risk assessments and manage internal database systems of safety related documentation.
Present a professional image at various Trust Committees and work with a high degree of autonomy in the decision-making process involved in the establishment of best options for safety.
You will perform active monitoring including safety inspections and investigations with subsequent production of written reports.
With excellent communication, skills to ensure effective health and safety related information to all levels of staff in the Trust and have strong persuasion and negotiation skills.

Deputising for the Associate Director of Safety & Statutory Compliance Trust’s ‘Competent Person’, in protecting the Trust and its most valuable asset: its staff.
Provision of specialist advice to the organisation, making recommendations for the compliance with a large range of health and safety legislation and statutory requirements.
Must have credibility with internal and external customers of the Safety Team, so must have demonstrable specialist knowledge and understanding of the law and practice of health and safety at work.
A breadth of knowledge to undertake presentations and teaching/training on a wide variety of safety related topics.
Judgements involving highly complex situations which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of specialist options.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of health and safety legislation and able to provide up-to-date detailed advice and guidance to the organisation and managers on the applicability and consequence of statutory requirements.
Credibility, flexibility and knowledge to deliver (and ensure delivery of) teaching and training on a wide variety of safety related topics both within the organisation and externally, as appropriate.
Ability to identify hazards and risks arising out of the wide variety of complex activities involved in healthcare provision, including risks to patients, staff, visitors and contractor
