Description:

DEPUTY SECRETARY, AGRICULTURE TRADE AND REGULATION - DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND FORESTRY

  • An executive role reporting into the Secretary
  • Deliver strong policy and program management leadership
  • Advise on regulatory functions & frameworks associated with trade facilitation
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is the lead agency for the food, fibre, fisheries and forestry sectors in Australia. We support the entire supply chain, helping to grow Australia’s economy and meet consumer demands both at home and in overseas markets. Our 5,500 employees work in a range of environments and locations around Australia from airports and abattoirs to laboratories and foreign countries daily to improve the value, productivity and profitability of the agricultural sector.
Around two-thirds of Australia’s agricultural products are exported, and the Agricultural Trade and Regulation Group is responsible for ensuring Australia’s agri-food and fibre supply chains can safely and securely supply Australia and the world by maintaining and improving market access for Australian exporters. It does this by using our extensive networks, regulatory and technical expertise, and good relationships. The Group includes four Divisions and 16 international posts.
As a Deputy Secretary with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you will provide strong policy and programme management leadership to a diverse team. You will provide high level advice to the Minister, the Secretary and the departmental executive. You will work closely with key executives in other Commonwealth and state government agencies, and with industry and community stakeholders. A key focus will be on developing and advising on regulatory functions and responsibilities associated with trade facilitation, business operations and risk management within a technical and highly complex environment.
To be a strong contender for this important and demanding role you will need to have a demonstrable track record of leadership and management including in regulation and regulatory service delivery. The successful applicant will be responsible for playing a significant part in developing and implementing policy and programmes to facilitate Australia’s agricultural, fisheries, food and forestry industries.
You will be responsible for maintaining Australia’s robust regulatory framework that governs the export of plants and live animals and ensure the requirements of importing countries are met.
To apply, please upload your CV and cover letter. For any questions not outlined in the PD, please contact Ryan Webster on 0427 329 443 or Jarrod McLauchlan on 0407 808 517.
