Design Director

Position Summary
The Design Director will be responsible to the Senior Vice President/Regional Vice President Design Services for the execution of Technical Services within the assigned division maintaining the integrity of Hyatt’s Design Standards. In addition, he/ she will be responsible to ensure that the Design Services Division is operated with compliance and integrity. Full support and cooperation will be exercised with Owners, External Consultants and Corporate/ Regional specialists to positively contribute, in the spirit of collaboration, to the growth objectives of the company.
Position Responsibilities:

Development:

• As assigned by the SVP/ RVP Design Services, to work in partnership with the development and feasibility team to evaluate prospective hotel projects, reviewing and visiting potential sites to determine the viability of the project.
• Perform desktop reviews, area program and consultant recommendations for the potential new hotel projects.
• Prepare or help prepare property improvement plan (PIP) for takeover and potential conversion projects.

Design Services:

• Work with Hyatt Product Development, Food and Beverage, Operations and Openings and Transitions team as well as the Owner’s Consultants during the design process with the purpose of safeguarding the Owner’s interests and Hyatt Brand Standards.
• Work with the internal Design Services team to service projects and produce the various key documents and deliverables of Design Services per the Technical Services Agreement.
• Prepare and update Preliminary Area Programs (a spatial requirement document).
• Evaluate and produce desk top reviews/ pitches for potential projects including presentations, rudimentary or conceptual sketch designs to assess their viability.
• When required, attend coordination meetings and represent Hyatt Design Services.
• Produce written documents and sketches to communicate effectively with the Owner’s Consultants.
• Provide guidance on the implementation of Hyatt Global Technical Standards and Brand Experience Guides.
• Assist the Owners’ design consultants on any initial space planning and conceptual design.
• Review the drawings and specifications submitted by the various design consultants.
• Hold/ attend kick off meeting as required in their respective regional office.
• Assist in BOH planning, information and coordinate with the Owner’s consultants for incorporation
• into the drawing set.
• To have experience leading Hotels Capex and renovation work, in particular large scale hotel renovation projects and extensive knowledge on interior details and FF&E.
• Provide leadership and training for design managers and new team members in the team.

Financial:

• Assume responsibility for the cost-effective operation of the Design Services Department.Assist in the collection of Technical Service fees.

Pre-requisite

• Architectural Design/ Interior Design Degree – Bachelor’s Degree or Foreign equivalent.
• Minimum of 15+ years of post graduate hotel project experience in the Architectural/ Interior Design field and Technical Services with experience in all phases of the design process. The candidate should have strong hand sketching abilities, detail design experience and on-site experience and full scope of Hotel Operator Technical Services providing guidance to Owners, Contractors, and Consultants regarding the implementation of technical standards.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Track record managing others and/ or teams within their current or past roles.
• Track record managing in executing and delivering projects from inception to completion including new build, conversions and renovations. Delivery of Hyatt brands/ hotels is a plus.
• Must be prepared to travel in their respective region.
• Must be fluent in English and local language, other languages are a plus.
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat skills are required. Data management and AutoCAD systems experience a plus.
