WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO);
  • A university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering), or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent;
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, applying electrical engineering principles, methods and practices, and demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and standards;
  • Proven experience in the design of related electrical and/or traction power systems and associated equipment;
  • Previous field experience, dealing with multiple internal and external stakeholders; Experience working within a unionized environment is an asset;
  • Good working knowledge of electronic testing equipment, transformers, switch gear, emergency power supplies, lighting, power distribution/generation systems and other associated systems/equipment maintained and rehabilitated by the Overhead Engineering section;
  • Sound judgement, supported by well developed analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication and technical report writing skills, and a proven ability to coordinate and direct the efforts of others (i.e. consultants, contractors, etc.) in order to accomplish objectives;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer applications and software related to the work, including strong knowledge of Microstation CADD systems and operations;

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will provide engineering design expertise to work associated with the TTC’s electrical and traction power systems. In addition to taking professional responsibility for engineering work as required by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), you will play a crucial role in providing engineering support to our operational maintenance staff in the field, who keep the system running on a 24-hour basis.

Other responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Planning, scheduling, and producing detailed designs, contract specifications and engineering drawings for electrical and traction power projects;
  • Coordinating and guiding TTC staff and/or consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers in related design work; checking and approving designs, resolving design issues and ensuring compliance with TTC standards and specifications;
  • Preparing engineering calculations, designs and specifications for both planned and emergency work, and supporting testing and commissioning of new systems;
  • Working closely with operational teams to investigate, evaluate, and test new, existing or proposed systems, components and/or construction methods; troubleshooting operational problems, malfunctions/faults; recommending alternate design, procedures, equipment, materials and related solutions;
  • Participating in estimating, budgeting, and procurement processes as required;
  • Performing feasibility studies, surveys and assessments of existing systems and equipment; conducting quality assurance and ensuring conformance to design; reporting safety, reliability, quality and other issues.
