Description:

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
Be part of the team that connects rigorous technical design to the future of air travel.
The Payloads organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Design Engineer (M, F, D) (Associate) to join the 787 Interior Monuments team in Hamburg, Germany.
The Payloads organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly; and a lot that you don’t: the interior of the airplane, along with the lavatories, galleys, cargo compartments, exterior markings, associated systems, and cabin safety all make up Payloads. We are how our airline customers fulfill their mission and represent their brand.
Our organization is a fast-paced, dynamic environment, which pulls from many engineering backgrounds. A customer introduction represents the unique configuration details for the first airplane implementation of a customer’s order block. Galley and BFE Engineers are responsible for managing the integration of multiple development customer intro programs into Boeing aircraft by implementation, overseeing supplier designs, integration, certification, and delivery of your assigned programs to ensure all customer, regulatory, and Boeing requirements are met.
The selected candidate will work on complex Galley and BFE Customer Introductions as well as production support, collaborating with internal and external technical experts, Cross-Functional Program Leaders and Executives, and supplier management. You will establish technical direction, integrated and recover schedules, and priority for assigned projects.
The selected candidate will have a statement of work that spans the customer introduction lifecycle: leading the upfront technical definition, feasibility studies, supporting configuration development, resolving cross-commodity and interface design issues, validating and verifying design requirements, and identifying and managing risks.
Using your business acumen, desire for challenging projects, and ability to lead through ambiguity, you will be able to combine the expertise and resources of the Interiors organization to certify and deliver the best interior products within the industry. Airline Customers and BFE and Galley Suppliers are located around the globe, requiring flexibility to support meetings at any time, as well as the need for travel, domestically and internationally.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor’s of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering.
  • 2 years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience.
  • Experience leading a cross-functional/integrated product team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Experience in aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria, certification, and release processes.
  • 5 years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience.
  • Leadership: must be a self-starter, adept at leading complex projects and influencing people across and beyond the Interiors organization.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate complex scenarios with diverse internal and external personnel (peers, executive leadership, other IPTs, suppliers, airlines).
  • Technical Integration: capability and good knowledge to manage complex design problems involving interface management among multiple product teams, developing solutions, and providing recommendations.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent.
  • Creativity and innovative thinking: develop solutions that meet customer and Boeing needs.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with a highly variable work statement.
  • Understanding of the Boeing Program Management Best Practices (PMBP) including RIO.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering techniques: requirement-based design, V&V.
  • Occasional travel may be required to supplier and/or customer facilities.
  • 5 years of experience in program or project management, leading project and/or program proposals of varying complexity (including: development and execution of schedule milestones, financial assessments, resource assessments, risk and/or issues management, etc.).
  • Good problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Ability to use a variety of media to clearly convey information and ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and development.
    Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates, and documents interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Performs and integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
