Description:

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE ENGINEERING DESIGN MANAGER

  • Experience working in highly regulated industry.
  • Have a strong technical background and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills due to the levels of stakeholder management required by the role.
  • Sound understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, gained ideally from a regulated industry.
  • Experience of the design lifecycle and a logical approach to problem solving.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DESIGN MANAGER

  • You will hold a Degree in a STEM subject (or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience).
  • Registered as a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer. If not registered then you should be able to evidence that you are working towards this, along with holding membership of a relevant professional institution.

THE ROLE

As Engineering Design Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing part of the business undergoing significant transformation to support the engineering projects onsite at Devonport.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for managing the technical aspects of a project, from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Scoping and managing the technical delivery of projects throughout their lifecycle
  • Supporting the Design Management Group to manage the development and delivery of complex design solutions within safety critical facilities, to quality, time and budget
  • Securing, organising and leading internal and external resources as the project demands
  • Ensuring that design outputs are fit for purpose and delivered within agreed budgetary and schedule constraints
  • Developing and applying a structured design process in a proportionate manner that reflects conventional and nuclear facility applications

This role is full time, 35 hours per week provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
