Purpose and Scope
PSP is seeking a Design Engineering Manager to lead a team of Civil, Structural, Mechanical , and Fire Protection Design Engineers at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on the Base Operations and Spaceport Services (BOSS) Contract. The specific types of facilities in which these systems are located include space flight hardware processing facilities, launch pad support facilities, engineering and administrative support buildings and other types of industrial and commercial facilities. Projects range from simple single-discipline to complex multi-discipline.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of the civil, structural, mechanical and fire protection Design Branch for Baseline and IDIQ Task Order projects and other assignments of varying degrees of complexity. Plan, Direct, and Monitor overall quality, technical content, and timeliness of the Engineering Products developed by their Branch. Ensure that a Quality Assurance/Quality Control process is completed so engineering products released meets or exceeds customer expectations. At this level, the individual will have demonstrated an understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, foresight, working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and delivery of high quality technical excellence. Assure design product is commensurate with the scope, complexity, and acceptable risk of the project. Understand when there is a need for a low cost delivery approach to a project and the ability to implement it. Possess a familiarity with the design of steel, concrete, timber and masonry building systems, roofing, bridges, towers, roadways, water distribution systems, HVAC systems, and fire suppression systems. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules while maintaining performance standards. Manage the design teams to keep their focus on the project deliverables, schedule, and allocated hours. Enforce proper attention to schedule and manhour status updates. Monitor the production of design deliverables for each project. Provide recommendations for hiring new personnel. Develop, mentor and manage staff. Establish and monitor Branch and individual goals. Manage staff career development and training. Conduct performance evaluations. Establish and maintain exceptional client relationships via effective communication, time management, responsiveness, and reliability. Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with company’s policies and applicable laws. Conduct periodic meetings to review Company and Branch updates, issues and personnel work safety. Conduct periodic one-on-one meetings with employees to maintain open communication with staff, listen to suggestions, obtain status, ensure efficiency, and provide solutions where needed. Ensure compliance with Company and Division policies, procedures, and objectives. Review, develop or update Design Engineering Branch procedures as required. Utilize the BOSS award program to recognize Design Engineers who have exceptional excellence and dedication in their work. Prepare, deliver, and submit technical presentations in support of planning or design issues or efforts. Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelors of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related scientific field. Management or supervisory experience: 3 years minimum. Civil/Structural or Mechanical Design Engineering or related field experience: 10 years minimum. Possess a working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs – including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Project. Good communication, writing and analytical skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred to possess a current and active FL Professional Engineers license or be able to attain that license within one year of the start date of employment. May require some limited travel. May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by NASA, program, and position.
Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
