As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for providing design and drafting oversight and technical direction to all disciplines across the project with focus on digital tools (particularly the 3D modelling environment). Accountable for design integrity and consistency across the project in compliance with Company and Customer requirements to meet all safety, ergonomic, economic, operability and maintenance requirements and owns All discipline technical competency and quality programs and oversees technical competency of those within the design team.

Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a Design Manager to join our Perth team.

The role responsibilities include:

  • Ensures HSE has the highest priority in all activities undertaken by engineering and design personnel and also ensures team member adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications including design parameters defined by the Discipline Design criteria and Basis of Design (BoD).
  • Helps to develop and implement design standards, processes, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality of design deliverables and support the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
  • Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, Intellectual Property (IP) and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful and uses local/global standards to support technical excellence.
  • Conduct regular informal design reviews to evaluate progress, identify potential issues, and provide recommendations for improvement and Oversees the design process from concept generation and feasibility studies through detailed engineering, Execute and handover to construction and commissioning.
  • Supports management of project change by identification of changes in scope and communicating this to the project Discipline Leads for action and provides input into quality activities and recommends improvements, and takes action where required related to engineering design.
  • Oversees the 3D modelling activities by all disciplines, ensuring the 3D model adheres to all project and regulatory standards as well as assists in ensuring the 3D model is clash free, data is consistent, and design correct.
  • Ensures modelling meets the required model content for stage model reviews. Supports the Lead Discipline Designers in their specific accountabilities.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Advanced Work Packages (AWP) and its set up and management through all project phases.
  • The Design Manager is not directly responsible for the generation of project deliverables but is a support function to the engineering design team. This includes;
  • Oversees the 3D modelling activities by all disciplines including coordination of inter-discipline plant layout considerations such as plot boundaries, roads and plant access, stormwater and contained drainage, I&E facilities, NPI requirements, constructability and operations interfaces.
  • Co-ordinates design information between disciplines and supports disciplines in generating design deliverables from digital tools.
  • Supports in the resolution of technical issues including helping to define alternate solutions, pros/cons established for multiple solutions, and recommendations made to support official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations.
  • Supports disciplines in generating Material Take Offs (MTOs) from digital tools used in material quantity tracking during design to provide confidence in the accuracy of design documentation and associated deliverables.
  • Plans and coordinates 3D model reviews (30, 60 and 90%) by ensuring Terms of Reference (ToR) are complete, pre-review checklist complete, actions and tags recorded in the meeting and supporting closeout out post review meetings.
  • Ensure technical Integrity of design deliverables (including the 3D model). This involves helping to coordinate engineering design including items such as clash checking and ensuring adequate checking is taking place.
  • Ensuring that the Supplier design requirements for model delivery captured in the relevant Supplier Specification are correct.
  • Ensuring progress rule sets from the 3D model are realistic and any discrepancies are elevated to the PEM and PIM for resolution.
  • Assists the PIM in the development and configuration of Integrated Design systems.
  • Informs users of potential problems and program bugs with digital tools and maintains master log of Applications Software enhancements, bugs, and fixes.
  • Coordinates with project PIM user testing of new software and upgrades (as required).
  • Helps to support and facilitate the transfer of data between 3D model and other systems and also facilitate 3D system and isometric / 2D drawing extraction.
