POSITION OVERVIEW

The BSVII CP2 - Tunnel & Track Project is the first progressive design build in the transit space. It is a 5.2-mile-long tunnel with 3 underground stations (Diridon, Downtown San Jose, and 28th Street/Little Portugal) and 2 portals (West Portal/Newhall Yard and East Portal). The tunnel will be constructed with a single, large-bore diameter. It will have an inside diameter of 48’ - 48.5’ and an outside diameter of 53’. This project will be one of the top five largest tunnels made with a single-large-bore machine. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is 800 feet long and will excavate and put up the concrete tunnel liners.
We are seeking a Design Project Engineer, working directly for the Design Manager and Deputy Design Manager for BSVII CP2 Tunnel Project in San Jose. In this role, you’ll help the Design Managers deliver the design of this progressive design-build project. You’ll provide oversight of the Design Comment Resolution Process, as well as review all requests for information to the client. You’ll be responsible for compiling the monthly design progress reports for the internal Joint Venture as well as the client. You’ll be a key participant in both Design Management, Internal Executive and Owner Weekly meetings as the generator and note taker of the meeting minutes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Preferred)
  • 5+ years of directly related experience in delivery of alternative delivery (Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, CMGC/CMAR, EPC, etc projects)
  • Proven experience in transportation/infrastructure projects; and experience in delivery of projects in other transportation service sectors (rail & transit, aviation and ports) is preferable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies

Base Compensation: $115,000 - $147,000

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate multi-discipline technical teams as requested by the Design Manager.
  • Responsible for completion of project design tasks:
  • Monthly Owner Progress Report
  • Monthly Joint Venture Operational Report
  • Weekly Manager’s Report
  • Coordination of Project Engineering Team – VTA and KST
  • Lead Preparation of Weekly Design Management Agenda
  • Lead Preparation of Bi-Weekly of Internal Senior Manager Agenda
  • Oversee the Comment Resolution Process for all Design Submittals and generate reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Support Monitoring and control cost of the design
  • Work with discipline leads to track progress of design deliverables including updating physical percent complete for applicable design packages.
  • Attend and participate in public and private Owner meetings in conjunction with Senior Design Managers, Project Managers, and Discipline leads. This includes being able to report on project status as appropriate
