EIT Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is Europe’s foremost climate innovation initiative, entrusted by the European Commission to catalyse transformation through innovation. Headquartered in Amsterdam, with circa 160 people distributed all over the EU, EIT Climate-KIC leads and orchestrates innovation with a community of more than 400. Together we conduct activities in 39 countries. We partner with cities, regions, governments and communities with the highest climate action ambition; providing the framework and expert support to holistically manage the complexity of climate change and deliver accelerated climate action.
EIT Climate-KIC operates as a not-for-profit platform working through public-private partnership, wielding both public and private funding. We consist of 3 Legal entities: a Dutch BV Holding company (for profit) with 14 branches in European jurisdictions, providing grant management, innovation orchestration services, and impact investment advisory owned by a Dutch-based foundation with charity status – Climate-KIC International Foundation. Historically, we have been funded by our founder and core funder, the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), but we are currently transitioning to a multi-funder model.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimal 3-5 years working experience and an academic background in the field of Forestry, Environmental Engineering, Climate, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Economics, or Architecture Environmental Engineering.
  • Project delivery in projects with multiple partners.
  • Contribution to project management funded by external funders (e.g. through Horizon funding or Foundations).
  • Experience and capacities in writing and reporting.
  • Planning, organisation, coordination, multitasking, problem solving and prioritisation under pressure with minimal supervision.

Skills:

  • Comfort and confidence working at systems level, working with multiple partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to build capacity by investing in the development of others and in the development of self.
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal communication skills, and ideally in at least one other European language.
  • Capacity in listening to learn, empathy, human-centred design, agility, empowerment, and collaboration.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and resilient: able to work effectively in ambiguity and complexity and to respond dynamically to change.

Location
Candidates must have the right to work in the location they’re applying for (I.e. not require visa sponsorship) prior to applying for the position. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based close to one of the EIT Climate KIC offices, but we support fully remote or hybrid forms of working and offer a high degree of flexibility.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, as a member of the Resilient and Climate Neutral Regions Cluster, you will contribute to the implementation of a programme aiming to transform forest management and associated value chains in order to maximize their climate and biodiversity impacts. More specifically, the objective is to contribute to the development of an international programme on holistic and systemic approaches that maximize carbon removals and sequestration in the forests, and the storage of carbon in long-lived products.
We are seeking an individual having initial skills and motivation for the forestry domain, having experience in project delivery and management and capable of working in multiple partner environments. This role will require an innovative person, at ease with complexity and systemic approaches.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of activities and systemic approaches in the forestry sector that aim to transform entire systems to address critical challenges posed in particular by climate change.
  • Contribute to our work in the CSFEP program (CSFEP.org)
  • Participate in the delivery of forestry projects, working with a variety of partners across Europe and beyond
  • Contribute to extracting learnings from these activities and to derive concrete action from themParticipate in fundraising activities through the preparation of project proposals with team colleagues and partners
