Description:

HI THERE!

I’m Jussi, and I am looking for a designer to join our lovely design team at MeetingPackage. Currently, my buddy Hugo and I handle all the designs here, but we’ve reached a point where we’d love to have some help to tackle the vast universe of “design stuff” – which, as you probably know, includes a lot of exciting work. And that’s what you’re here for, right?
As designer number three, you could work with almost everything in our design realm, preferably leaning towards visual design and even videos. For example, you could design our marketing materials, investor decks, ads, and event materials (yes, including print!). But hey, if you’re also interested in product design (UI/UX), user research, accessibility and the like, we don’t complain, not at all.
That said, we believe in generalism. I’m a designer-turned-developer, and Hugo is a developer-turned-designer. Just imagine the breadth of our design discussions, from data structures, interfaces and optimal user experience to Pantone colours, typography and design history. Ok, I need to be honest here: We’ve never really discussed design history. Maybe you’ll surprise us?

I hope that served as an intriguing introduction, let’s look at some concrete examples next! To do this, I fired up our todo list to show you some of the tasks we currently have in our pipeline:

  • Table design update to support nested content
  • Ad visuals for marketing
  • New icons
  • Sales video
  • High-level exploration for event types
  • New login/register flow
  • Feature table for integrations
  • Website visuals
  • Tax structure exploration
  • New Careers page
  • App navigation redesign

If any of the above tasks made your designer heart skip a beat, then brace yourself—there’s plenty more where that came from. Let’s dive deeper into the nitty-gritty details!

In this role, you will…

  • Design delightful visuals. Help us build our visual language in every format, from advertising and videos to event materials and marketing.
  • Work with other amazing designers. Well, we’re sort of not in the place to call ourselves amazing, but heck, we’re amazing. And so are you!
  • Plan, design and present your ideas. When faced with a big task, you pull out your paper and pencil and figure out the big picture. How does this fit into our product? Who is this for? What feeling should this convey? When you have an initial sketch ready, you are comfortable presenting your ideas, gathering feedback, and iterating until you are satisfied.
  • Contribute to our Figma design system where necessary. Our Figma is organised with custom cover images rocking our comprehensive colour system. You have our word for it: it will be love at first sight.
  • Work with complex design challenges. Our product, and the industry in general, is inherently complex. Clear visual communication can significantly help grasp the essentials, be it a super-slick sales deck, a stunning ad or a thought-provoking video.
  • Own your work. We give you responsibility and autonomy for your work.
  • Be obsessed over details. You take pride in your work and output. You keep spacings even, have an eye for typography, and your inner designer might even be a part-time copywriter, as you know the value of a well-written copy.
  • Support other departments. You’ll become everyone’s best friend when helping with sales decks, producing beautiful website images and fine-tuning that PR report feature image. Hugo just helped our marketing wizard, Matti, with our cookie consent design the other day, and he was super happy about the result.

You’ll feel at home if you…

  • You’re detail-oriented. You immediately know when something feels right (or wrong). Ah, that loading animation speed is a bit off. Hmm, with proper vertical flow, this page would look so much better. In other words, you have developed an eye for detail.
  • Are a Mac user. As you’re a designer, the chances are you are a Mac user.
  • Live in Finland. Our office is in Espoo, Leppävaara. We come to the office at least a couple of times a week, as do many others. Some of us work remotely from different countries, so that’s also fine.
  • Like clear communication. Writing is thinking. The better you can express yourself, the better we can work as a team.
  • Bonus: Know at least the basics of programming. We know design engineers are a rare breed, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to ask. We know it’s painful sometimes to wear two hats (designer + developer), but we also believe it results in better design decisions if you’re about to participate in product design.

Our toolset

  • Figma. The standard of modern design.
  • Adobe Creative Suite. Primarily for print materials and occasional retouching.
  • Modern software. Slack for communication, Jira for tickets (we’re planning to move to Linear), Notion for documentation, GitHub for source control, and ChatGPT for a helping hand. Some of our team members use productivity-boosting tools such as CleanShot, Grammarly, Loom, Raycast, and Alfred.

Talking about our team, we’re a small, diverse, and friendly team of 40+ professionals and 20+ nationalities spread across the globe. We believe that embracing diversity and giving ownership to individuals leads to success. We trust team members to make the best decisions. We spend time together and organise kick-off events at least once a year, most recently in Málaga, Spain.

Why now is a great time to join?

  • You’re in good care. We offer compensation that includes a monthly salary of occupational healthcare (Heltti) and a weekly 1-hour workout break. In addition, you’ll get the tools and equipment of your choice and support for a remote office.
  • We care about your career growth. It’s possible to evolve in your role and take more responsibility and ownership of our design efforts.
  • We’re on the move. We have enough capital to fuel our growth. We believe in finding the right people to build a company everybody enjoys working for.
  • You’re joining a team, not just a company. Together, we celebrate, brainstorm and innovate.
  • The industry is evolving. So far, hotels and venues have been working on bookings manually. We’re helping our customers – and the industry – to take meeting and event booking online. As our COO Mika keeps reminding us: If something can go online, it will go online.
