Based in Dumfries, Southwest Scotland, Gates (U.K.) Ltd is a major international company specialising in the production of power transmission belts for the automotive and industrial markets. Our continuing success has resulted in this exciting opportunity based in our Dumfries Plant.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we are looking for an ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individual to join our team. Working full-time from our Dumfries office, you will be a Development Technician within our Product Development group.
Reporting to Director of Global Engineering the core functions of the position include responsibility for the manufacturing of belt prototype samples to support all activities of the Automotive Synchronous Product Development Group. This includes all rubber synchronous belt types serving the automotive market such as electric power steering (EPAS), electric parking brake (EPB), camshaft, water pump and oil pump drives. Project types supported include new product developments, commercialisation projects, material substitutions and technology transfer projects.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Educated to ‘Higher’ level or equivalent in relevant subjects such as English, Mathematics, Sciences, and Technical qualifications.
  • Experience within manufacturing, mechanical engineering or product development/testing would be an advantage.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • The ability to work methodically, with high accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Must possess good organisational and time management skills.
  • Computer literacy and numeracy skills are required to analyse and store data.
  • Interpersonal & facilitation skills to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the manufacture prototype belt samples to support all group activities and validation testing.
  • Maintains the storage of development belts and materials.
  • Schedules static and dynamic belt testing as necessary to support department activities.
  • Coordinates material substitution programs and summarizes test results in reports for project reviews.
