QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism or another related field); OR background in foreign affairs and/or international relations; OR prior U.S. federal government experience.
  • Experience with graphic and digital design including creating any combination of graphics, print and digital media for one-pagers, posters, handouts, programs, fact sheets, reports, websites, social media platforms, and other products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms and digital content best practices as well as experience in content creation and direct management of social media accounts.
  • Extensive experience writing and editing for social media and a deep understanding of digital design principles.
  • Extensive experience using content creation tools, social media management systems, and other digital technologies to develop, edit, and publish content online.
  • Understanding of analytics tools and ability to review metrics to determine the performance of content and recommend solutions or modifications to content.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction from superiors, effectively work in a team environment, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytic, critical thinking, written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have 2-3 years’ experience in digital graphic design and content creation, including experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other digital platforms.
  • The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Selected applicant may assume the role under an interim clearance and/or while clearance process is underway.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceive of and create digital content that advances EAP/PD messaging objectives and can be used domestically as well as by public diplomacy practitioners in the field. Representative products include graphics, print and digital media for one-pagers, posters, handouts, programs, fact sheets, reports, websites, social media platforms, and other products.
  • Develop, edit, publish, and distribute content for online platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other digital platforms.
  • Conduct daily management of the EAP social media (Twitter) account – including creation/posting of original content, compilation/posting of existing content from official sources, monitoring/amplification of relevant content for department-wide flagship accounts and monitoring of EAP account analytics.
  • Coordinate with departmental offices to ensure digital content supports State Department messaging priorities.
  • Apply State Department branding guidelines in all work.
  • Work under tight deadlines and efficiently adjust content based on real-time shifts in the messaging environment.
  • Research, track, and analyze trends in social media content creation and relevant technologies to identify evolving audience preferences and content creation methods.
