Digital Editor (6-Month Fixed Term Contract)
Salary: National – ranging from £39,100 – £43,500 and London from £41,600 – £46,000 per annum

The team/ department
As one of the functions in Editorial, Digital & Design, the Digital Content team runs the FCA’s corporate website: the organisation’s key communications channel. It sets the publishing standards for the FCA, including digital best practice and UX, using our clear content guidelines and ensuring user accessibility.
The team publishes and edits a wide variety of FCA content working daily in our website content management system. This includes our corporate publications, Annual Report, Business Plan and consultations through to news items and data, as well as our information for consumers, financial services firms and markets helping them to understand our expectations and engage with us.
We are responsible for ensuring the best experience when users visit our site whether it is a firm we regulate or a consumer who needs help.
We work in a fast-paced communications environment, on high profile issues, managing multiple projects and stakeholders, working to tight deadlines and striving to produce high quality, engaging products and channels.
We work in a team with other content editors and graphic designers, and with the wider Communications division, other internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

What you will be doing (the role)

  • Advocate for digital best practices and ensure user accessibility across all digital platforms
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing and editing digital content
  • Utilise strong technical skills to effectively navigate and manage content within our system
  • Exhibit expertise in User Experience (UX) and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
  • Able to handle analytics and social media platforms to enhance digital presence and engagement
  • Translate technical information into reader-friendly digital content through effective stakeholder management, ensuring clarity and accuracy
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on selecting appropriate digital channels, while promoting digital best practices and user-centric approaches
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to strict publishing deadlines

This role sits with the wider digital team publishing content using the most suitable format. The role requires flexibility to work alongside colleagues including taking turns covering out of hours work.

The skills and experience you will have
Minimum

  • Experience of working on publications in a Content Management System (we use Drupal)
  • Experience of working in a high volume multi content publishing environment
  • Relevant experience of working in a similar digital editorial role

  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal, a talent for producing effective written content following organisational tone of voice
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects at a time
  • Knowledge and understanding of the latest digital technologies
  • Track record of delivering strategic publications while prioritising user needs
  • Proven sound attention to detail, can demonstrate high standards of professional excellence, following governance processes
  • Sound judgement, effective decision-making and personal accountability
  • Ability to work productively and flexibly with others to ensure various deadlines are met
  • Ability to form successful working relationships, collaborating with colleagues at different levels with good influencing skills

Please note this role is initially available on a 6-Month Fixed Term basis.
Once comfortable in the role the successful candidate will be expected to work as part on out of hours duty rota. Sometimes there is a requirement to publish content early mornings/later into the evening or at weekends. Time in lieu is given for hours falling outside of the norm.
