POSITION SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the Director Global Compliance manages all applicable regulatory (EMC, Safety and Materials compliance) approvals on all Professional Solutions products. In charge to define, develop and execute regulatory compliance business processes for Harman Professional solutions.
Provides pre-compliance and compliance testing support and coordination, responsible for maintaining and updating all compliance and compliance-related laboratories, and provides regular updates for all R&D related leadership and staff on current and anticipated compliance standards and regulations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. iNARTE certified EMC Engineer preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in testing and obtaining regulatory agency approvals of electronic hardware products for EMC, wireless, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Understanding and experience with RF systems, embedded analog and digital circuitry
  • Has a full understanding of industry practices.
  • Able to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data or situations requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Previous management experience in a technical environment.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions for difficult assignments and of diverse scope.

Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies:

  • Previous experience or exposure to product related to audio, lighting, video, IoT or other related hardware/software products and industries preferred.

Responsibilities:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will lead and develop a regulatory and compliance team of approximately 10-15 people across the globe (US, Hungary, Denmark, China) for Professional products including Audio, Lighting and Video and Control products.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Business process owner for Professional solutions product regulatory compliance processes across the product lifecycle, from NPI through sustaining to product end of life stages.
  • Scope of role – Brands: 8+ Harman Pro brands including AKG, Crown, JBL, BSS, Lexicon, Soundcraft, AMX, Martin
  • Scope of revenue – >$900MM annual revenue; successful product compliance is required to ship all Harman Pro product globally. Specific countries/regions including USA, North America, Central/South America, China, Australia, Japan, Korea, India, and the entire EU/UK region.
  • Scope of technologies – The Global Compliance leader must support products using their understanding and knowledge of the regulatory compliance requirements of products using these technologies: Batteries (rechargable/non-rechargable); RF (WiFi, wireless microphone, NFC, Bluetooth); Large Switching power supplies up to 250V/50A; Professional LED lighting fixtures up to 40k lumen intensity; embedded analog/digital hardware; Video including HDMI, HDBaseT; Network connectivity including WiFi, ethernet 1G/10G; IoT products B2B and B2C.
  • Scope of Impact: Lack of compliance will immediately halt sales revenue on affected products; Must have an understanding and ability to manage the Financial and legal penalties of non-compliance.
  • Strategic and tactical role; Reports to VP global R&D
  • Manage annual budget of $10MM and 10 employees on 3 continents.
  • Track strategic regulatory environment in Pro countries and markets; align team activity to achieve/maintain product compliance; report to Harman/Samsung on risks, mitigation, actions.
  • Regulatory environment is changing rapidly with additional standards for sustainability, raw materials used, Life Safety, Cyber Security.
  • Inform and educate design engineers on compliance environment and design requirements to ensure product designs comply with regulation.
  • Manages external regulatory and government agencies,test labs and other compliance suppliers; contracts/scheduling/oversees quality of results
  • Support global sales internal and global distribution partners (external) with documentation needed to ship products
  • Liasion to internal and external Legal experts to obtain opinion and alignment on applicable standards specific to Harman products.
  • Assuring product portfolio compliance for EMC, Safety and Materials compliance globally for all Harman Professional Products
  • Plans and performs pre-compliance and compliance testing, including tests under the scope of laboratory accreditation.
  • Identifies and documents product approval requirements for projects. Develops, revises, and/or reviews EMC laboratory test procedures.
  • Participates in regulatory related committees and professional organizations..
