WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic HR Director to play a critical role in developing and executing human resources strategies that are closely aligned with our global business objectives. The HR Director will be responsible for overseeing a broad spectrum of HR functions, including talent management, leadership development, and organizational change initiatives. The HR Director will lead a team of HR professionals and ensure that all HR programs and initiatives are implemented effectively, taking into account compliance with employment laws and regulations in various regions. Additionally, the HR Director will provide leadership coaching to enhance team performance and collaborate with executive management and other stakeholders to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
The HR Director in Canada plays a pivotal role within the senior leadership team, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to Retailors Canada and its various group entities across the country. This position holds responsibility for workforce planning, talent management, performance enhancement, engagement initiatives, development programs, and retention strategies. Collaborating closely with the CEO of Retailors Canada and the VP HR, this role drives the implementation of people-centric solutions, leadership guidance, organizational effectiveness, retention programs, and cultural initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic direction and growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in human resources, Organization Development, Business, or related field required.
  • HR Certification Required (international/global preferred).
  • Proficiency in all Canadian labor laws and regulations, including all provinces.
  • French language skills would be beneficial.
  • 10+ years of progressive human resources and organization development experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in managing a team.
  • Experience in the retail sector would be highly beneficial.
  • International experience, particularly in Europe and Canada, is preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of Human Resource Management, including employee relations, Canadian employment law, performance management, and HR projects.
  • Deep understanding of international hiring, labor/employment laws, employee relations, compliance, compensation, benefits, and training and development.
  • Proven track record in building high-performing and highly engaged teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and influence multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong credibility-building skills at all levels.
  • Establishment of collaborative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and sensitive issues in a professional manner.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Willingness to engage in non-core tasks and take a proactive approach to learning.
  • Excellent consulting, coaching, facilitation, and client management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and HRIS/HRM systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and partner with the CEO of the business to understand the business objectives and strategize HR plans to develop and implement human resources strategies, solutions, plans, leadership, and succession initiatives that align with overall business objectives. The DR Director’s responsibility will also involve partnering with senior store leadership managers to drive organizational change initiatives.
  • Work closely with executive management, line managers, and HR team to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Collaborate with the VP HR to develop and implement human resources strategies, solutions, plans, leadership, and succession initiatives that align with overall business objectives.
  • Oversee employment processes, procedures, and performance management to ensure effective global operations.
  • Manage the entire employee lifecycle, ensuring a cohesive and impactful approach.
  • Provide individualized leadership coaching to support high-performance teams.
  • Coach leaders on people-related matters, HR processes, and employment practices, emphasizing their impact on the business.
  • Coordinate talent reviews, performance evaluations, and compensation adjustments for all levels within the respective region.
  • Contribute to restructuring and organizational design efforts.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance internal service delivery.
  • Oversee and manage a highly effective HR team responsible for ensuring provincial and local employment compliance.
  • Supervise HR programs and initiatives in areas such as recruiting, compensation, benefits, performance management, learning, talent management, and workforce planning within their respective divisions.
  • Deliver training on workforce-related issues, including company policies and performance management.
