POSITION FOCUS:

Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking a Director of Academic Affairs to join a dynamic and growing Office of the Deputy Dean. YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus, is conveniently located near major highways. The Director of Academic Affairs would be an integral part of the team, serving as a strategic partner in the Dean’s office, reporting to the Deputy Dean. This position oversees all aspects of accreditation and compliance, including the transition to competency-based education and integration of the new essentials. The incumbent will collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research regarding all relevant survey data that will inform academic programming. The Director represents the Executive Deputy Dean’s office with other school and university offices, faculty, students, staff and external contacts to identify needed academic policies, lead the development of academic policies, and make academic policy recommendations to DD, Yale General Counsel and BPO. Oversees implementation of assigned academic policies. The incumbent will serve as the primary lead for academic program analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and establish appropriate recommendations or conclusions and will direct external reporting to accreditors and other institutions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in business, education, nursing or a related field required plus six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

5 years of experience. Higher education experience. Experience working with academic programs. Experience in Nursing and/or other health-related fields. Expertise in accrediting and compliance. Experience with CBE.

Responsibilities:

  1. Functions as a representative of the YSN EDD Office to liaises with other school and university offices, faculty, students, staff and external contacts. Identify needed academic policies, lead development of academic policies using a collaborative approach, and make academic policy recommendations to EDD, Yale Legal Counsel and BPO. Oversees implementation of assigned academic policies. 2. Works collaboratively with OSA on the annual and ongoing revision of the Bulletin and Student Handbooks in consultation with appropriate YSN committee structure and approval leadership process. Assures consistency within and across documents. Assures changes adopted by academic programs throughout the year are accurately reflected in document updates. Work with division chairs, specialty directors, units and communication director and staff to assure consistency in information presented across written and electronic sources. 3. Prepare academic program reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends andestablish appropriate recommendations or conclusions. 4. Primary lead across divisions and academic programs, YSN units and committees and initiatives related to the work of academic affairs, such as development of state and national accreditation reports, campus accreditation, and readiness for site visits. 5. Primary lead across divisions and academic programs related to the work of academic affairs and the development of new programs and initiatives, conducting gap analyses, and identifying appropriate funding applications. 6. Supports grant writing activities focused on academic program improvement (e.g., HRSA, philanthropy)7. Ensures the preparation and timely submission of reports to organizations that accredit and regulate academic programs in coordination with division chairs, specialty directors and the DD. Prepares major self-studies of the academic programs for internal and external review. 8. Serves as the primary contact for the YSN Academic Support Unit on the development, implementation, and use of electronic systems such as Canvas, and other learning management systems that may be put in place. 9. Serves as a methodological expert on integrating Competency-Based Education (CBE) and the New Essentials.10. Supports curriculum mapping and offers project management support to the curriculum committee in ensuring that YSN adheres to the curriculum re-envisioning timeline and maintains compliance with national accreditation standards.
