Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Board and Executive Affairs serves as a key member of the Vice President’s office by providing administrative and project management support. The Director is responsible for planning, directing, and managing operations and relationships involving the Office of the Vice President and The Campanile Foundation (TCF).
The Director will serve as the principal liaison between the Vice President’s office and other senior University officials, deans, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, prospects, students, and parents, as well as state and local government offices. This position is responsible for independently setting office priorities and scheduling and assignment of own work. The Director will serve as liaison with the senior managers of the division and with the Vice President’s direct reports and will schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and coordinate meeting plans. The Director works closely with the Chief-of-Staff and other staff in the President’s office.
Working closely with the President and CEO, the Director manages the operations of The Campanile Foundation’s Board of Directors, including organizing and coordinating all board and committee meetings, planning retreats and associated activities, providing background material for board deliberations, assisting with committee appointments, setting agendas, scheduling, and correspondence, and maintaining records.
The Director will also work in coordination with Special Events on internal and external events in support of University Relations.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Units of URAD work together to create enduring relationships with alumni, parents, donors, students and the community to generate private support for SDSU students, faculty and a diverse number of programs. URAD handles a range of services encompassing stewardship, events, gift administration, communications and more.
Within URAD, the departments of Development, SDSU Alumni, Planned Giving, Special Events, Donor Relations, Marketing and Communications, Financial Management, Data Management, Prospect Research and Management and Operations are making a difference in the lives of SDSU’s 37,000 students.
URAD had another record-setting fundraising year in 2022-2023 with $136.9M total raised. Other superlatives in 2022-2023 include 16,534 total gifts, 2,254 scholarships awarded and 5,969 first-time donors. The latest fundraising success can be credited to the university’s goal of building a world-class university campus, research center, and multi-use stadium in Mission Valley to serve higher education, the public good, and the community’s goals and aspirations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Five years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent administrative experience which has provided the applicant with the knowledge and abilities listed below.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Board etiquette and experience interfacing with Boards and volunteers.
  • Experience generating meeting minutes, reports, board packages and general correspondence.
  • General accounting knowledge and fiscal management skills.
  • Ability to establish format, to independently initiate, compose and draft clear and concise final form memoranda, board meeting materials, minutes and correspondence requiring selection of material and reference from a variety of sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the University’s highest-level donors, President’s office, legislative offices, faculty, administrators, staff, students, and the public.
  • Computer-savvy with exceptional research skills.
  • Experience supporting an Executive Management position at a university or non-profit organization.
  • Experience with events management and experience dealing with volunteer committees and committee leadership.
  • Ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events.
  • May, on occasion, be required to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours.
