Empire State University is currently seeking a Director of European Programs for the Center for International and Extended Education. Leveraging the strength of 50 years of international engagement, the Center for International and Extended Educations seeks a visionary leader to manage existing programs in Prague, Athens, and Tirana while expanding the footprint of the university to serve the university’s mission of access within the European context. The university has a distinguished record of international student engagement with over 6,000 alumni and a mature, varied portfolio of programming. Students earn SUNY Empire degrees outside the U.S. in partnership with local universities without the need to travel to New York.
This leadership role requires residence in Prague, Czech Republic with frequent travel during the Fall, Spring, and Summer academic terms to current partner programs in Albania and Greece. Additional travel to Empire State University in Saratoga Springs, New York will be required at least twice annually. The Director of European Programs reports to the Senior Executive Director of the Center for International and Extended Education in New York. The Director is a sophisticated and culturally astute leader who manages local needs, while proactively working with New York based administration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain excellent student, faculty, and partner relations.
  • Hire, supervise, and support all academic professionals delivering curriculum abroad in the assigned programs.
  • Represent Empire State University in Prague, Athens, and Tirana including support and direct supervision of professional program coordinators who live and work at each site.
  • Work with local faculty and academic leads to create synergies and communities of practice that elevate the relevance and quality of curriculum offered to international students of the university in-keeping with all SUNY requirements for the delivery of degree programs abroad.
  • Regularly review online and in-person course content and initiate new content development as necessary, in cooperation with SUNY Empire faculty subject matter experts and local faculty.
  • Expand and enrich visiting faculty residencies to qualitatively impact the student experience.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate accreditation and licensing materials for all appropriate governing bodies in each location, in cooperation with each local partner.
  • Monitor educational trends and developments impacting enrollment, curricular and degree relevance, and economic viability for all programs.
  • Pursue enrollment growth through new and existing partnerships leveraging innovative programming of the university with strategic focus on SUNY Empire’s access driven approach to higher education.
  • In cooperation with local program coordinators:
  • Manage all student enrollments, assign academic mentors (advisors), plan and maintain updated content for informative orientations.
  • Plan each academic term, determining appropriate course offerings to accommodate student needs.
  • Lead all commencement activities and maintain meaningful ties to the international alumni community through outreach and networking events.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree required.
  • The ability to travel and work in international settings.
  • Mastery of English language at native or near-native fluency.
  • Facility with technology in the educational context.
  • Distinguished management experience.
  • Prior experience managing budgets and accurately projecting strategic investments for growth.
  • The ability to respond to emerging needs with professionalism and focus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in higher education teaching in the US or internationally.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a language, in addition to English.
  • Experience working in a management role in a multinational environment.
  • Experience working in a distributed environment with local and remote colleagues.
  • Familiarity with the SUNY system, or a comparable US-based system of public higher education.
