Description:

Your role at St John of God Bendigo Hospital
As the Director of Finance, you will provide outstanding financial leadership that underpins the hospitals successful performance. You will lead, manage and develop services and caregivers within the finance, patient administration, and health information portfolios.
This role will also be essential in managing the provision of services from/to Group Finance Shared Services on behalf of the hospital.

The Position

  • Develop a strong culture of performance management, performance improvement and stewardship.
  • Monitor labour productivity and performance on a daily, weekly, fortnightly, and ongoing basis to ensure compliance with agreed budgeted measures. Engage with departmental managers and Hospital Management Committee (HMC) members where performance does not meet expectations and actively inform the Hospital CEO of ongoing performance shortfalls.
  • Ensure there is an appropriate platform (structure/reporting/processes) for performance management and improvement within the Hospital. Ensure that the reporting implemented aligns to requirements for both the Hospital Operationsl Directorate and Group Finance.
  • Work with the HMC members, Department managers and the Hospital Operations Finance Director to actively align with current activity and resourcing. Ensure that regular reporting of forward activity is also communicated to HMC and relevant departmental managers.
  • Follow up on month end financial performance outcomes with HMC members and ensure that appropriate action plans are developed and followed through for their areas of responsibility. Any ongoing performance issues to be notified to the Hospitall CEO.
  • Proactively inform the HMC, and the Hospital Opertations Finance Director and Group Finance of any material Hospital performance issues as they arise together with strategies to improve.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly report against performance improvement strategies at a Hospital reporting level, providing regular updates in respect of progress.
  • Benchmark the Hospital’s financial performance within SJGHC, the Catholic health sector and the broader health industry to understand comparability of KPI’s and make recommendations regarding structure, process, and performance improvement.
  • Assist the Hospital’s HMC in understanding existing and future activity so as to assist in managing workforce and productivity.
  • Manage the Hospital’s Finance, patient administration and health information functions to ensure all strategies, objectives and actions of the Hospital Operating Plan for these portfolios are implemented.
  • Undertake analytical analysis of monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual results and communicate the key drivers of financial outcomes to management.

You will have demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills that enables you to identify issues and opportunities for improvement. You will have ability to guide the CEO and Executive team on detailed financial performance matters including trend analysis with a view to identify issues and providing advice that leads to performance optimisation.
To succeed you will have a tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce or Business and possess membership of CPA or ACA. Extensive experience in accounting and financial management with skills in facilitation, negotiation and leadership, will be essential to this role.
