This is a full-year, benefits eligible position, with health insurance; paid vacation; sick, family sick, and personal time; and other benefits.Candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are encouraged to apply.The Director of Information Technology provides leadership to the district for its information technology needs, including responsibility for hardware, software, data integrity and systems security. The Shrewsbury Public Schools is a highly regarded preschool through grade 12 district consisting of nine schools with over 5,900 students with almost 1,000 staff members, with a strong tradition of providing excellent information technology infrastructure, access, and services.This person in this role is the leader of the Information Technology Department, with 17 direct reports who are focused on serving various technology needs throughout the school district, along with shared administrative support. This position reports to the Superintendent of Schools, with a strong collaborative relationship with the Central Office Leadership Team for the district, as well as with the PreK-12 Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services.
Key Responsibilities: Provides leadership to utilize information technology in order to enhance teaching and learning, use data for decision making, and provide effective communications and operationsOversees district work to support various systems, data management and software, including state level assessments, Student Information Systems (e.g., PowerSchool), repositories for educator evaluation information (e.g. Vector Evaluations), etc. Provides leadership to employ communication technology (e.g., ParentSquare), including the district’s web presence to strengthen the effectiveness of the district’s internal and external technical footprintMaintains systems securityMonitors ongoing data integrity, ensuring that systems are as integrated as possible, system backups are performed, and disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in placeManages technology support, data management, video, audio-visual, telephone, video surveillance, and electronic keycard systems in all school facilitiesLeads and supervises the IT Department team, which consists of Instructional Technology Support Specialists, IT Project Manager, Network Manager, Network Administrator/IT Security Specialist, Data Manager, Data Specialist, Works with Central Office in the hiring and assigning of department staffEstablishes and maintains close working relationships with appropriate municipal departments on technology-related issuesLeads and supports the district’s efforts in maintaining and submitting required student, staff and technology data to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary EducationOversees the development of software (in-house and contracted), networking, operations, help desk and related vendor relationsOversees the acquisition and inventory of computer hardware, software and related equipmentOversees the information technology infrastructure, including the network systems supporting connectivity for students, faculty and staff. Oversees maintenance of computer systems and serversVets proposed technology use for policy, regulatory, and technological compliancePrepares and manages the districts IT budget.
Makes presentations as necessary to the School Committee and to the community regarding budget and other relevant informationAdvises the Superintendent in area of responsibility and initiates program proposals and activities to improve services and/or increase efficiency of the School DepartmentFosters close collaborative relationship with PreK-12 Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services in areas of mutual responsibility, e.g. 1:1 technology, educational software implementation, and balancing needs of implementation with governance/policy developmentPerforms other tasks as assigned by the superintendentPreferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related fieldStrong background in database management, especially student information systemsKnowledge and experience with IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, cybersecurity, etc.Knowledge and/or experience with management of technology devices assigned to employees and/or studentsExperience in the public education sector, or experiences aligned with or that demonstrate the ability to adapt to leading IT in the context of PreK-12 public education Works flexibly in a rapidly changing IT and public education environmentDemonstrates the core values of Shrewsbury Public SchoolsWork Year/Compensation: Salary for this position will be up to a maximum of $155,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
