Description:

The Director of Medical Informatics at Western Health (WH) serves as the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) and is responsible for facilitating the Western Health Digital Strategy and supporting the implementation and adoption of clinical information systems that assist medical officers in the delivery of patient care at Western Health.
At Western Health, there are two distinct roles of Director of Medical Informatics to address the ongoing demand and need for medical informatics to support major capital infrastructure and digital application projects. The Director of Medical Informatics (Capital Infrastructure) primarily focuses on key capital infrastructure projects, including but not limited to:
o New Footscray Hospital,
o Bacchus Marsh and Melton Hospital,
o Community Hospital,
o Mental Health Sunshine Hospital
o Other capital infrastructure projects as requested by the Director, Digital Health
o Operational support for the WH Telehealth program
The Director of Medical Informatics (Digital Applications) primarily focuses on enhancing the EMR and other digital applications within WH that has a clinical focus. This includes, but not limited to:
o EMR (Oracle Health)
o BossNet (Allscripts)
o Digital CTG (Philips)
o Other projects as requested by the Director, Digital Health
The two Director of Medical Informatics will work closely with each other to ensure a consistent approach is applied to both capital infrastructure and digital applications.

The role of the Director of Medical Informatics (Digital Applications) brings clinical leadership to digital technology and health information processes, practices and changes primarily centred around the following core pillars:

  • Strategy
  • Projects
  • Operations, implementations and change management
  • Digital Health services
  • Research & innovation
  • Education, training, adoption and oversight
  • External partners

To provide additional clinical oversight across WH, this role will have indirect reporting line report to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for professional and clinical leadership elements.
