Your Role
As Director of Medical Services (DMS) you will provide dynamic, and responsive clinical leadership, assist and advise the Chief Executive Officer, support clinical governance and actively participate as a member of the Hospital Management Committee (HMC).
You will lead all medical practitioners in the delivery of the highest standards of medical practice and respond promptly to concerns or performance issues with medical practitioners while creating a productive collaborative and respectful culture.
This part time role is for a fixed term 6-month contract.

The Position

  • Assists the CEO in leading conversations with medical practitioners eg. Potential new doctors, credentialing and clinical performance issues.
  • Advises the CEO on outcomes of clinical incident investigations /root cause analyses, and recommendations concerning clinical safety / contemporary best practice.
  • Leads Medical Services as a visible, participative manage
  • Understand and actively work towards achieving SJGHC’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide leadership to Medical Services to foster a spirit of trust and communication between medical practitioner and other health or administrative professionals.
  • Promote clinical excellence in healthcare delivery, which maintains the highest standards of medical practice but is also efficient and patient centred.
  • Effective governance and management of Medical Practitioners’ Accreditation and Scope of Practice
  • Provide expert advice to credentialed medical practitioners, hospital executives, managers and caregivers regarding the provision of medical services.
  • Develops and implements strategic workforce planning that enhances attraction and retention of caregivers and VMOs.
  • Demonstrates a commercial outlook in support of the Hospitals strategy and targets, and shares in the development and ownership of the annual budget with the HMC.

You will be a Registered medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have demonstrated leadership and management skills in acute health care including the achievement of high-quality patient outcomes, service satisfaction and operational efficiency.
You will have a demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and facilitate effective patient centred multidisciplinary teamwork and a proven ability to develop and meet strategic and operational objectives
Highly regarded will be attainment of, or evidence of study towards a relevant post graduate management or leadership qualification and a Fellowship of an Australasian Medical College.
