Job Title: Director of Pharma Strategy, DaVita Venture Group
Description: DaVita Venture Group’s dedicated Pharma Strategy Team is responsible for helping DaVita navigate a dynamic renal pharma landscape where multiple new transformational therapies are expected to launch over the next 5 years. This dedicated team oversees ~$1B in annual pharma spend and owns the strategy, contracting and partnerships with DaVita’s key pharmaceutical stakeholders, while reporting regularly to DaVita’s CEO and working closely with clinical and operational teammates to deliver new and innovative therapies for DaVita’s +200,000 patients. As we grow this novel team, we are seeking a Director of Pharma Strategy that will have managerial and external-facing responsibilities while working directly with DaVita’s head of Pharma Contracting & Strategy, Tom Musgrave, a Vice President with multiple years of experience in pharma and healthcare private equity consulting.

Ideal Skills and Background:

  • 8+ years of direct pharma or pharma consulting experience
  • Deep pharma subject matter expertise, including familiarity with manufacturer-provider negotiations, pharmacy dynamics and government/payor reimbursement dynamics
  • Strong financial knowledge & modeling experience – MBA preferred
  • Strong interpersonal & leadership skills – experience building consensus across divergent teams, presenting strategy recommendations and facilitating discussion with senior C-level executive

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic clarity on Pharma – Work with our clinical, operational, and contracting teams to develop a unique health economic perspective on each class of renal drug. Build alignment with senior leadership on scenarios, contracting priorities, negotiation approach, policy priorities, and operational priorities including use of AI and personalized dosing technologies. Extend core pharma strategic thinking into emerging value-based care models. Work with value-based care experts to develop DaVita’s approach to taking risk inclusive of pharma.
  • Contract negotiations – Develop supporting deal models and support execution of successful negotiations with key pharma manufacturers, pharmacy partners, and personalized medicine companies for access to relevant products and services
  • Cross-lane collaboration– Partner with a wide range of internal stakeholders to build alignment with our strategy and ensure operational readiness for new product launches; includes regular reporting to DaVita’s CEO and COO
  • Ongoing surveillance of pharma landscape – Conduct primary and secondary research to monitor pharma market trends and refine strategic priorities accordingly
  • Support broader venture team – Operate in a cross-functional manner to support broader team priorities in venture, incubation, and other lines of new businesses
  • Manage direct reports – Assume managerial responsibility over managers and analysts to scope manage and deliver on key pharma workstreams
