JOB SUMMARY
This position reports to the company’s EVP Quantum & AI Products and is responsible for developing our quantum computer hardware solutions and leading a team of quantum engineers and quantum technicians. The role closely interacts with the groups in ParTec’s Quantum & AI Department: the software development teams for Quantum and AI, the Applications and Performance team, Quantum Product Management as well as the Business Operations team, in particular Supply Chain and Lab Facility Management. The Director of Quantum Engineering also supports the Sales & Marketing division and helps represent the company externally.
EXPECTED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Ph.D. in the field of experimental quantum physics
- At least five years of experience in quantum computer engineering
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Strong experience with quantum computers built with super-conducting qubits
- Experience with at least one additional quantum computing modality.
- Strong experience with the management of cryogenic lab environments.
- Strong practical experience with ultra-low noise and quantum control electronics.
- Strong experience with quantum computer calibration and associated SW frameworks
- Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical ability.
- Ability to effectively communicate across all levels.
- Fluency (written & spoken) in English.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Experience with CAD tools
- Experience with methods for optimal quantum control
- Experience with methods for quantum error correction
- Experience with quantum computer simulation and emulation
- Experience with supervising and mentoring a technical team
Responsibilities:
- Leading the engineering and development of quantum computer hardware solutions for different modalities.
- Directing a team of quantum engineers and quantum technicians.
- Evaluating and selecting component technologies and suppliers for our solutions in close collaboration with Quantum Product Management.
- Collaborating with Quantum SW development and the Applications and Performance Group on the definition and development of the overall solution architecture.
- Collaborating with and supporting Supply Chain in partner and supplier negotiations and relationship management.
- Responsible for hardware performance estimations and benchmark commitments to customers.
- Supporting Quantum Product Management in defining our quantum product roadmap.
- Supporting Sales & Marketing in developing product marketing material, presenting at conferences/workshops and in sales projects.
- Supporting the facility management of the ParTec Quantum Factory in the operation and further development of the lab.
