OVERVIEW

As the ninth oldest independent school in the nation and premier independent school in the Lehigh
Valley, Moravian Academy is seeking a new Director of Technology. Today’s Moravian Academy offers
every student more ways to explore—and become—their most authentic and successful self. On three
intentionally distinct yet philosophically united campuses, we celebrate, support, challenge, and learn
from each other, preparing young people to step confidently toward the college and the future of their
choice, and to make a meaningful difference in their local and global communities.
Founded in 1742, Moravian Academy is a Preschool through Grade 12 coeducational college preparatory
school comprising over 900 students and 200 faculty and staff on three distinct campuses across the

Lehigh Valley, each tailored to a distinct student experience and culture:

  • The Historic Downtown Campus (preschool-grade 8), situated alongside the national historic

landmark in the heart of the City of Bethlehem;

  • The Swain Campus (preschool-grade 8), a 22-acre contemporary campus in the beautiful west

end of Allentown;

  • The Merle-Smith campus (grades 9-12) situated on 120 acres of bucolic green expanse in

Bethlehem township.
The Director of Technology at Moravian Academy will inherit a special opportunity. Moravian is a school
with a storied history and is committed to timeless traditions and values, with its sights on the future.
There is a visionary, strategic, and experienced head of school. There is a talented and dedicated faculty.

programs including, a Spanish Immersion program on the Historic Downtown Campus, Public Speaking
and Experiential Learning on the Swain Campus, and the Comenius Project (honors independent study)
on the Merle-Smith Campus. In addition, a robust number of co-curricular and extracurricular activities
are available for students across all three campuses.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field required; advanced degree

preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive IT professional experience, including experience at a management level with

supervision of customer-service oriented teams and budget oversight responsibilities.

  • Experience working in K-12 schools, higher ed or as a classroom teacher (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the complexity of systems in a school with an ability to strategically sync operations

to ensure security and maximize efficiency across academics and operations.

  • A collaborative, cooperative, empathetic, and innovative leader with a high emotional quotient who is

able to work with constituents with varying levels of technological competence.

  • Teacher-leader orientation with a willingness and ability to implement professional development training

for faculty and staff.

  • Action oriented, “hands-on” project leader who plans and executes in detail making difficult decisions

and taking end-to-end responsibility for achieving results.

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning, delivery, project management, and policy

development.

  • Knowledge of emerging educational technologies, standards, and regulations, with a commitment to

student data privacy.

  • Knowledge of best practices in academic and informational technology and engagement in related

professional organizations.

  • Strong supervisory and staff development skills.
  • Experience in developing security policies, procedures, and awareness programs
  • Technical knowledge of network and computer operating systems, hardware, and standards.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, Macintosh OS, Woogle Workspace, Blackbaud, JAMF,

Aruba wireless preferred.

  • Understanding of business theory, process, management, budgeting and purchasing operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide vision and leadership for technology for all IT operations that can take the school into the future,

enabling growth and ensuring the compatibility of systems and strategy across the entire organization.

  • Collaborate with the other senior leaders of the school and within cross-functional teams to understand

the schools’ challenges in order to implement solutions that deliver measurable results and support

technological innovation in classrooms.

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of a collaborative process to develop a strategic vision and

multi-year plan for technology that is aligned to the school’s overall strategic plan, values, culture, and

departmental needs.

  • Participate in and lead school management discussions around IT initiatives, including project scoping,

project approval, project execution, cost management, and all internal and external relationships related

to technology platforms.

  • Oversee the IT procurement and deployment process, including vendor, consultant and service

agreements for hardware and software.

  • Model and support best practices in innovation, technology integration, and instructional design.
  • Work in collaboration with technology personnel associated with educational software to assess the best

choices for student curriculum and special programs.

  • Ensure the performance, maintenance and integrity of all technology systems with a focus on innovation,

security and efficiency.

  • Manage operations of critical technology platforms, systems (SIS, LMS, etc.) database integrity and

management.

  • Set policy, regulations,system standards, and operating procedures for use of technology including the

establishment and management of a Data & Analytics Strategy.

  • Establish, manage and drive IT vendor relationships, plan and manage the IT budget, and work in

partnership with the CFOO to find efficiencies and cost savings.

  • Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, performance, goal-setting, training

and evaluation while maintaining a commitment to outstanding customer service.

  • Assess the current data storage on all campus locations. Initiate a backup plan for faculty/staff/student

technology and implement. Suggest plan to better protect the data stored on technology devices and

prepare a comprehensive plan for restoration of data in the event of a system failure

  • Establish and document technology procedures and policies, including disaster recovery, cybersecurity,

and business continuity strategies.

  • Provide expertise in cybersecurity, and a strategic mindset to ensure that the school is prepared to meet

the evolving challenges of the digital age.

  • Serve as the school’s spokesperson and ambassador for technology initiatives, fostering innovation and a

forward-looking technological environment.
