About the role
Ambulance Victoria is currently seeking a suitably experienced paramedic for the position of Director, Paramedicine.
A newly created position reporting to and working closely alongside the Medical Director, the Director, Paramedicine will be a critical appointment here at AV with the position instrumental in the provision of the highest quality patient care through expert clinical advice, leadership, and policy development, enabling AV to develop depth in clinical leadership throughout the organisation.

With an ability to effectively work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, this position will support AV to deliver the highest standard of clinical care, and will be critical to: -

  • Building key relationships with key stakeholders, including health service partners, professional colleagues and academic partners, to foster a shared ethos of research and education to deliver high-quality, evidence-based pre-hospital care.
  • Provision of paramedical leadership at the highest level in the organisation, in order to meet AV’s strategic and operational requirements, whilst driving forward the development of paramedic practice.
  • Supporting the Office of the Medical Director in ensuring that all AV clinical systems, processes, and guidance are fit for purpose.
  • Ensuring systems are in place across AV for clinical leadership including clinical expertise, clinical supervision, mentoring and continued professional development.
  • Positioning AV in the health and emergency service systems as experts in delivery of patient-focussed emergency/pre-hospital healthcare to the Victorian community.
  • Providing open and effective leadership to build a high-performance, collaborative culture that fosters continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Leading and contributing to a safe, lawful, and respectful workplace culture through the modelling of ethical and positive behaviours consistent with the AV values.

About you

Suited to a highly motivated and strategic individual, the successful applicant will possess:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Paramedic with extensive clinical experience
  • Significant relevant and current clinical practice with clinical experience in emergency care.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in leadership, education or research
  • A high level of leadership and mentoring experience, with significant success across areas of clinical expertise, education, and improvement.
  • Previous experience in and the ability to contribute to the delivery of high level, quality education and training; including the ability to identify clinical education needs and training or development opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships and influence, negotiate, and generate engagement with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

This position will be a permanent part-time position (FTE 0.5) with the understanding that the successful applicant will maintain currency and relevance as a practicing paramedic alongside the role. For individuals seeking to maintain clinical practice as a paramedic at AV (up to full-time), there will be the opportunity to work in a paramedic operational position up to 0.5 FTE. Options around a dual appointment will be discussed with the preferred applicant and will be based on individual circumstances.
Hybrid working options are available however it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a presence across the state.
