The Opportunity
Cochlear has a full-time opportunity for a Director, Portfolio Strategy & Planning based in our Macquarie, Sydney Global HQ. In this role, the successful Director, Portfolio Strategy & Planning will lead the Portfolio Strategy & Planning team and be responsible for driving Cochlear’s annual Product & Services Plan (PSP) strategic planning process. This role is critical to ensuring technology leadership, sustaining market share leadership, and accelerating growth in our market/category.

Responsibilities include:

  • Portfolio Evolution and Prioritization: Ensure ongoing debates about how the PSP portfolio should evolve in the short (2-3 years) and long term (3-10 years), and prioritize projects aligned with Cochlear’s key future business objectives and market opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Enhance the PIP process to ensure appropriate engagement and buy-in from senior leadership in R&D, AI, IT, Regions, Global Marketing, and Services.
  • Team Leadership: Create a team that can drive debates and directions of PSP based on market evidence and the needs of the organization and the market.
  • Sensitivity Analysis: Align Cochlear’s senior leadership (CLTD and Regions) around an annual Sensitivity Analysis on how the mix and value of Cochlear’s portfolio might evolve with the launch of next-generation smart implants.
  • Commercial Impact Review: Direct a formal Commercial Impact Review (including Lessons Learned) of recently launched products.

About You
As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Significant experience running strategic planning processes for large global companies, ideally in multiple types of companies/industries.
  • Significant experience in a product management role for a leading global med-tech and/or health services company.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executive teams, develop presentations, and present to senior executive teams.
  • Significant project management experience with disparate, cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to quickly analyze new categories and technologies as part of classic management consulting opportunity assessment processes.

Ideal:

  • 5 years’ experience with a leading Strategy Consultancy, at Senior Manager or Engagement Manager level, ideally primarily working with leading global med-tech and/or health services companies.
  • Significant experience in market research / market analytics role.
  • Advanced degree (MBA) preferred. Technical degree (e.g., biomedical engineering) preferred.
