The CT&I Process Engineering Director will lead the team that supports the design, development, assessment, and monitoring of bold process designs that foster agility and resilience. In this role, the Director will employ process engineering methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to identify opportunities for improvement and ultimately innovation and transformation in the care delivery space. The Director will lead teams, participate in, and generate recommendations to gain efficiencies in all focus area opportunities of the CT&I Innovation work. This role will work collaboratively with internal and external teams to support CT&I to effectively and efficiently assess, develop, and integrate new workflows derived from the translation of workflow observations, quantitative inputs from various clinical systems, and qualitative inputs.
This role will be located on site in Nashville, TN and will require up to 25% travel.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor Degree required/Master’s Degree preferred
  • Lean Sigma Black Belt required/Master Black Belt preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred

•Minimum 5 years’ experience in process engineering is required.•Previous hospital-based experience is preferred.

  • Must be comfortable working in ambiguity and demonstrate extreme flexibility in schedule in an effort to meet facility and CT&I goals.
  • Must be able to work effectively alongside operational staff, leadership at multiple levels of the organization, as well as Subject Matter Advisors and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Effectively manages multiple and frequently changing priorities and demonstrates strong time management skills to deliver high-quality work products/artifacts in a dynamic environment with critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills required to address clinical and systems-related challenges, gather and interpret clinical data, and prepare a concise synthesis of both data and observations. Analytical skills must include ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data, as well as identify innovative solutions to complex and challenging clinical problems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required to share complex information and observations with a broad audience of leaders and interprofessional clinicians.
  • Proven ability to work within teams and problem solve are required.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven and a desire to shape a strong culture of comfort around change is an absolute.
  • Ability to measure and track ROI and build cost savings models based on key metrics.
  • Expert in Excel.
  • Proficient in data analytics tools such as SQL and Power BI is preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop others and work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds and lead a team of Process Engineers including Managers and individual contributors.
  • Oversees and assess existing processes and workflows for identified CT&I initiatives
  • Employs performance improvement methodologies as standards for assessing innovative work.
  • Tracks initiatives against key success metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks to strategy, project plans, and key milestones.
  • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) enterprise-wide Master Black Belt projects leveraging Lean Six Sigma tools & techniques.
  • Identifies knowledge gaps where subject matter experts and other experts are needed for project execution. Works with CT&I cross-functional leaders to identify and gain access to these subject matter experts.
  • Assesses the complexity of clinical and business problems to determine the width and depth of effort required for process design/improvement discovery and design engagements.
  • Manages a cross-functional team to conduct process improvement and design process studies/audits, as well as studies in business process re-engineering and system design.
  • Manages a cross-functional team to improve the customer experience and design solutions that systematically reduce errors, reduce cost, and increase revenues that create clinical and business capacity.
  • Collaborates with CT&I Clinical Analytics, Business Operations, Data Science, ITG and cross-functional design partners (as well as external partners) to design, manage, assign and execute quantitative and qualitative data analysis including: Leveraging available and novel data sources in an effective and efficient manner, leveraging database and data analytics tools such as SQL and Power BI to support design and evaluation of business cases, and tracking current and future state metrics and KPI/KpI (key performance indicators/key process indicators) as a means to ascertain solution viability.
  • Supports the design, logistical planning, and execution of large (25 or more participants) Kaizen sessions including senior leader both internal and external to CT&I.
  • Supports development of pilot and project implementation plans.
  • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) the analysis of multiple inputs to produce standard CT&I work products and artifacts/outputs that render a concise and synthesized clinically-led analysis of perceived, current, ideal state and agreed upon future state design.
  • Collaborates and iterates with all CT&I innovation location teams.
  • Engages with executives, including CT&I Strategy, Clinical Operations, Product Lifecycle Logistics, Business Operations, Data/Technical leaders, HCA senior leaders and other business partners.
  • Engages and iterates ideal state clinical workflow and enabling technologies alongside Clinical Design and Change Management team to effectively support testing and iteration of solutions, programs, and products at all CT&I innovation locations.
  • Adheres to the standard operating procedures of CT&I, including all supportive technologies used to organize and progress work efforts.
