QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (preferred)
  • 7 years of progressive business experience in product development.
  • 3 years of demonstrated success at leading and managing professional staff.
  • Experience in product development, strategy and concepts creation and driving a product idea through feasibility and implementation phases.
  • Successful P&L management experience
  • Direct experience in consumer-packaged goods (preferred)
  • Overall business knowledge and holistic general management approach
  • Ability to gain the respect and trust of health plan and PHS senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

This position is accountable for product development and life cycle management from market introduction through obsolescence in all geographies and across multiple lines of business, product lines and multiple distribution channels within a specific operating budget. While not directly accountable for the P&L, must approach all work with a very strong P&L mindset. This includes proactive and intentional curiosity regarding product level performance by market and provider group and benefit level utilization and the ability to draw insights that will drive top and bottom-line performance. General duties include market research, competitive analysis, strategic product positioning, product prioritization, pro forma analysis, engagement with the provider community and distribution among multiple channels and other key programs that could affect short and long-term net operating income and share position, while ensuring all activities are consistent with Providence’s mission, vision and core values. Lines of business include but are not limited to; ASO and large group fully insured, small group, individual (inclusive of ACA), Medicare and ancillary.
This individual will be charged with driving the product development process to lead to innovative products that will differentiate PHP from the competition and drive PHP top line growth while ensuring bottom line performance is met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the product development team for either the consumer and specialty lines of business or commercial lines of business. Manages the life cycle process for multiple lines of business and multiple distribution channels, managing the budget, scope, resources and timelines.
  • Recruits, develops, maintains high performing team of product professionals, ensuring a highly engaged team of caregivers.
  • Manages the day-to-day progress of product development, planning and execution.
  • Establishes, monitors and remediates key performance indicators and success metrics.
  • Drives the advancement of product strategies across the organization and throughout PSJH regional executive and leadership teams. Define ROI of activities; ensure activities support company initiatives, goals and pre-established metrics.
  • Partners with internal analytics team and/or vendors to conduct market research. Identify consumer trends and information to drive market research in advance of competitors and marketplace shifts.
  • Provides leadership and consultation in analyzing product positioning to assure promotional campaigns and advertising are targeted for success.
  • Maintains brand integrity across product lines and all other internal and external tactics.
  • Provides direction and collaboration among multiple functional areas (sales, operations, underwriting, regulatory, public relations, communications), to execute specific product plans across lines of business.
  • Performs as a health plan leader through active leadership in marketing, product and sales decision-making efforts.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and develops strong leaders; Performance manages as necessary and provides relevant coaching and training opportunities.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of the local and national health insurance market, products and direction.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of industry trends, consumer behavior and expectations.
